Which sealant to use on replacing exterior speaker?

I had an exterior speaker get sun dried causing a crack. When it would rain heavy I would get water inside. I have purchased the same replacement speaker and need to install it. But I can't seem to find any info on which sealant to use to prevent water from getting in? The sealant that was on there before was a grayish color almost taupe? Is this that tape sealant stuff or does anyone know which kind of sealant I need to use to install this speaker leak free?
thanks!

  • I have never had any success with silicone on trailers/motorhomes. It tends to separate and peel off over time. Use "Proflex" for RV's. It's available at RV stores and works much better.

Yep, smear it all over that black looking cone gizmoe. Layer it one deep, at least an inch should work.

Mask it off. This will seal into the paint and gel coat. No moisture will get in. Masking will make it easier to pull a clean edge.

  • Between speaker and wall use butyl putty tape. Once installed and cleaned up, apply a bead of Dicor around top and sides.
