Who Performs the Oil Changes on Your C

Yesterday was Filter Friday at the local NAPA store. I usually get my OEM oil filters and Valvoline SynPower MST 5W-40 oil there. I can get a good price on oil by buying enough for a little more than two changes. That's five 6-packs. Since it was time to change the fuel filter I bought one on sale for $30.14 and the sales guy talked me into an engine air filter for another $14. For that price I can change it early. When the fuel filter and air filter was changed at the dealer while I was on the road, the cost for just those two items came to $253.99. They charged $60.75 for just the cabin air filter which was not necessary now or even then for that matter. My expenses came out to more than $700 and they did not even address the problem I was towed in for: a disabled transmission. I am willing to pay for fair and appropriate charges, but it is no wonder most of us can be found in our driveways doing what we can on our own.

Local Ford dealer does mine. It will be three years old in October and at that time will have its sixth oil change, filter and lube. They had a deal offering 5 oil changes, filter and lube for $99. I asked "do you mean I can buy it for my E450?" They said yes - so I did.

I live in Memphis, the largest city in Tennessee. There is only one Ford dealer in Memphis who can handle big trucks. They do all the delivery truck, ambulances, etc.

I just changed my oil today, 2011 Jayco Greyhawk with the Ford E450 and it was very simple. Six quarts of Motocraft synthetic blend oil and a very easy to get to Motocraft oil filter. I do it myself so I know it gets done right. This weekend I'm changing the oil on my generator.

Note: If you do your own oil change take something like an ice pick and make a hole (small no need to impale)on the oil filter to drain the oil, less mess when taking it off, and do not forget to lube the rubber ring on the filter so that it slides when you are tightening it, the lube prevents the ring from dislodging or kinking and creating a leak.

I'm spoiled. Mine is on top of the motor in front. Removable element that drains back into the housing when removed.
