Winegard Travler "NO LNB Voltage"

I have a slightly more than two year old Trav'ler System installed on my Tiffin Phaeton using Directv SMW system with an HR 54 main box and two Genie's. System has worked perfectly since installation. I needed to relevel the coach the other day so I stowed the Trav'ler, re-leveled the coach and then attempted to open the Trav'ler. All looked good until the control box returned a No LNB Voltage alert and the system went into an auto stow mode.

Did some trouble shooting from things found on line, Replaced the Wingard cable from the LNB to the turret but that did not help. Had a Directv guy try out a replacement LNB but still no go. He said his tester was showing a good signal through the cabling from inside the coach right to the LNB.

Called Winegard and told them what I had done as far as troubleshooting. They said the problem was therefore internal to the turret and I would need to return it to them for repair.

Seems odd to me that this problem just magically appeared. Any thoughts on other potential causes? Has anyone opened the turret?? Possibly just a loose wire or a circuit board that needs re-seating?? It's out of warranty. Thanks

  • bill.Satellite,
i am getting a constant "searching" on my travlr swm....so far, winegard has been little to no help. i convinced them to send an lnb, but doesn't seem like that will help.
how can i perform the calibrate el routine? i asked wingard if there was a reset on the dish and they said no, so i'm at a loss here...
    thanks
  • Have you completed a Calibrate EL routine? If not, do so. You will also want to disconnect the control cable for the back of the inside controller and reconnect to see if the problem goes away. Plug it in and out a couple of times to get a good connection.
If that does not work, if you can, go up on the roof and remove the cover plate at the base with 4 screws (above the cable exits). Very gently pull on the control cable leading inside the antenna. After about 6" you will see another connector just like the one inside. Disconnect and reconnect this a couple of times and try it again. If this works then you have found the problem. Before you put it all back together, squirt a tiny bit of di-electric grease in the 6 holes in that plug and push it back together and reassemble. It's likely the last time you will have that problem.
  • That sounds really weird. All you did was run it up and down. No driving or shaking. So many of these things are fixed by rebooting by unplugging for a few minutes. You have had a lot of talent there so my comments would be worthless. My issues were with the power inserter before i moved to Genie and the HR 54. Your message is on the controller so it never finds the satellites. Good luck.
  • Exact same problem, exact same crappy response from Winegard. This is my second Travler failure. Winegard is batting zero it fixing even after returning it to them. Dont waste your time or money IMHO, and try to find someone who can troubleshoot and fix the board in the head.
BTW, the board takes about 30 minutes to get out remove all the screws holding the head to the trailer roof. Lay it over and take the two screws, two coax and three plugs off. 6 small screws and the board is on the bench. Sadly it is really loaded with stuff, and unless you were lucky and blew the fuse your SOL.
