Xantrex inverter/charger issues

We lost external AC power and batteries went down to 12.4 volts. When power was restored the inverter went to bulk charge but only at 13.5 volts or so. I usually see 14.4 or so charge volts. I think I saw 92 amps DC charge rate on the led. I have new (couple months old) lifeline AGM batteries and the inverter/charger is set up for AGM batteries. Has anyone seen this issue with their inverter? TIA.

  • I'm on my third Xantrex converter in my 01 MH. No, I don't have to hit over the head with a shovel to make me understand that Xantrex is junk, its just my extended warranty will only replace with same item. I even offered to have it replaced with a smaller unit but no avail.

Isn't that reading the battery voltage? In other words, the batteries are absorbing the voltage coming out of the charger because they were depleted more than normally and the rate shown will climb as the batteries become fully charged.

Larry batterys at 12.4V are almost fully discharged. Seeing 13.5 volts is probabley all the batterys are requiring as they were still at least 80% fully charged. My units 3000 watt inverter/charger only shows around 13.9 when batterys are real low and 13.5 normal
switch it to desulfate mode for a minute and see what the output is then.if it still wont go above 13.5 then the thing has a problem
  • Larry, not sure this info helps you but will offer it anyway:

We just got our CC. Before purchase, I talked to prior owner and he said his Xantrex inverter failed (he described similar symptoms to yours) in 2011. He replaced it with a Mangnum Energy PSW inverter and replaced his house batteries at the same time. He used two 8D Deka AGM's. I realize our coach came with four 8D house batteries but we don't boondock so I think two will work for us. We also have the residential fridge.

I had replaced an older Xantrex in my previous coach with a Magnum Energy. If you decide to replace the Xantrex, I will say that my research revealed that Magnum Energy makes much better stuff than Xantrex at this point.
  • I had so much trouble with one of those Xantrex things that I by passed it. Only thing I used it for was charging the house batteries and I fixed that with a switch to charge off the coach and a remote float charger when hooked to shore power or on the generator.....I had returned it 3 times under warranty + spent $700 on it....ENOUGH!
