Xantrex inverter/converter problems

Our Xantrex 458, 2000W, MSW, inverter/converter keep tripping one of the two 20amp breakers. The top breaker controls all the inverter controlled circuits inside the rig and it keep tripping. The other breaker... I don't know what it does, but it is OK. That top breakers sporadically trips even when we are using minimum current. I called Xantrex but they were not much help, and the closest repair place is 500 miles away. I think the breaker just needs replaced but Xantrex will not sell to individuals and will not allow thier repair facilities to sell either. Has anyone had any experience with this problem?

I see the unit has 3 breakers

On on the Input (on the front)
and two more (I did not read where) for the output circuits

(Thanks to the person who provided the manual link)

So it may be they put everything on the one breaker and all he needs to do is split the load between the two.

Breakers are common electronic store items I suspect.. From the description Radio Shack used to sell them (But alas no more) most electroincs shops will have them and perhaps some electrical

Take hi-res photo (hold a ruler behing it when taking photo and look up Supply shops and ask.
  • On my 458 Inv/Chgr, the c/b's are installed directly into a PCB, and thus switching wires to determine if the breaker is bad or you have an overload is not possible. Is a bit complicated to replace breakers, as some dis-assembly of unit is required. You might find replacement at electric supply house, or maybe marine supply store as this type c/b often used in boat elec. panels. Unlikely to find in home improv. store such as Lowes/Home Depot. My experience with these type c/b's is that every time they trip they get a bit weaker, eventually not holding very well at all
  • On my Xantrex, one breaker is for the microwave and the other breaker is for the other outlets. Now look in your main circuit breaker and you will see several 15/20 amp breakers, ALL of which are fed by the Xantrex, except for the one circuit for the microwave. If you are drawing more than 2000 watts through the other circuits, the Xantrex breaker will trip. Start turning off each one of your electric breakers until you see which one affects the Xantrex breaker. You have something that is drawing more power than the Xantrex can supply, even when you are connected to shore power.
  • The breaker will most likely be an off the shelf part, available from a electronics supply house
Remove it and get the part number and go shopping online
  • Normally, the setup is this way.
1 AC breaker supplies the AC power to the Inverter/Charger.
The AC power then come from the Inverter/Charger to a breaker panel, which controls all the AC outlets.

You must have the 15D or the 20D. Both circuit breaker go to the loads.

    Look at page 6

Swap the wires on the two breakers. If the problem moves to the bottom breaker your problem is not the breakers.
