Camp Cook Equipment for the Fire

Does anyone here have/use the Camp Cook equipment that is sold a few places for cooking over an open fire. (Grates, Pot hangars, Hand rotisserie etc)

How do they stand up to repeated use?

Any opinions on the best brands? Ones to avoid.

I enjoy cooking over an open fire whenever possible and would like to get a set of this equipment.

Suggestions and recommendations?
  • I also use an old oven rack over the firepit. Start a good fire and let it burn do so you have good hot coals and not a lot of flame. I just don't use teflon coated pans over the fire and heavy duty aluminum foil works well also. Many of the baskets can be purchased in the area where grills are sold. Throw away aluminum tins are nice too - just toss when done.

Dutch ovens (the true heavy duty ones) are used alot over the fire for cooking.
  • We purchaesd a grate from Bass Pro two years ago and it has been great. It has a 24" pole that is driven in the ground and the grate attaches to that. You can swing the grate in or out of the fire and raise or lower it. I think we paid $40 -$50.

Most of our meat is cooked on this, hardly use the Q anymore.
  • I have a wire rack from an old oven that I have been using about 25 years. Except for a wire basket with a handle we use all the same pots and pans that we use on a stove. We don't cook on a fire we cook on the coals. It's the same heat so it doesn't hurt anything.
