Kitchen Bouquet Question

Gotta admit, I've seen it in the stores for 50 years but have never tried it. What are some of the uses it's good for?

  • I use it whenever I make brown gravy, stew, beef favored soups, meat pie etc

I watched my wife's mother make turkey gravy 50 years ago using Kitchen Bouquet. My wife nor her older sister never learned how to make the gravy, so every holiday I make the gravy. Not only does it add flavor, the more you use the darker the gravy becomes.
  • Adds a bit of flavor and lots of color to flour thickened gravy. My grandmother and Mom swore byt it and I have used it myself. Family tradition I guess.
  • I use it to paint the Turkey when I do them in a roaster, otherwise they look pale!

  • When I was a kid, my mom used this on Steaks. Whew, they were good!
  • I use it whenever I make a flour based gravy and want to darken it up just a bit.
  • The bottles in our kitchen that first ingredient is "Caramel color (sulfites)". Whatever that is.

I don't use it but the #1 cook does. My preference is naturally caramelized color and flavor in cooking.

Obviously I'm not the one in charge. :B
  • Kitchen Bouquet is a browning and seasoning sauce primarily composed of caramel with vegetable flavorings. It has been used as a flavoring addition for gravies and other foods since approximately 1879. It is currently produced by the HV Food Products Company, a subsidiary of The Clorox Company.

The ingredients listed are: caramel, vegetable base (water, carrots, onion, celery, parsnips, turnips, salt, parsley, spices), sodium benzoate (less than .01 or 1% to preserve freshness) and sulfating agents. Since February 2006, the product has been free of any trace of gluten -- corn, wheat or otherwise.
