Slaw recipes

Just wondering if some of you would share your recipe for slaw--and mainly, your recipe for the dressing. It seems every time we have slaw at a restaurant, it tastes different and for me it's the dressing that's the key.
Thanks.

  • This takes a little longer to make, but worth the time.
    1 pkg unflavored gelatin
    ¼ cup water
    Soften the gelatin in the water
    ¾ cup sugar
    1 cup cider vinegar
    ¼ cup water
    1 tsp salt (can be reduced or omitted)
    1 tsp celery salt
    ½ tsp paprika
    ½ tsp pepper
    Mix together in a saucepan and bring to a boil, remove from heat. Add the softened gelatin and stir until dissolved. Chill until partially set. Pour into a blender container add 1 cup of salad oil and blend on high until white and creamy. This makes enough dressing for about 10 cups of shredded cabbage. I also add onion, carrots and red and green pepper.
  • This one is good. To a package of slaw add:
    1/4 cup sugar
    3/4 cup mayonnaise
    1 teaspoon ground mustard
    1 teaspoon celery salt
    3 tablespoons white vinegar
  • I remember having cole slaw at a potluck once that seemed to have orange juice in it. Never found out who made it but I love that fruity taste. It might've had some tiny mandarin orange slices in it, now that I think about it.

    I use this recipe except I use Kraft Miracle Whip Light; Splenda for the sweetner and add a little skim milk if I need to thin it a bit. If you do not like the taste just adjust one of the three ingredients to suit your taste.
  • Here's the recipe I use all the time...

    1 cup Mayonnaise
    1 teaspoon Sugar
    1/2 teaspoon Salt
    1/2 teaspoon Pepper
    1/2 teaspoon Celery seed
    2 teaspoons Lemon juice, one lemon

    1/2 head cabbage shredded
    1 carrot shredded
    1/4 onion chopped
  • These sound great--I love a bit of sweet taste to the dressing. Now I am remembering how much I love carrot raisin salad (Morrison's Cafeteria used to make the best). I found this old recipe I used to make and the dressing is almost identical to most of the ones here.

    Carrot Raisin Salad
    3 carrots, shredded-1C raisins
    1/2 C mayo- 1 T vinegar- 1 T sugar
  • 3 parts Hellmanns
    2 parts sugar
    1 part cider vinegar
    Pepper and celery seed to taste, a shake or two of onion powder, and a shake of paprika

    For my favorite slaw I use shredded cabbage and carrots, craisins, diced apples, a tiny bit of seeded, deveined, and minced jalapeño, a handful of chopped walnuts and add a shake of cinnamon to the dressing. I can't get enough of this.
  • I use: shredded cabbage, shredded carrots, onion, sweet pickle relish. I make a quick slaw dressing by whisking: mayo, 2 tbsp vinegar, 2 tbps sugar and enough half and half to thin a bit. More southern slaw, not fancy.

    This Bobby Flay recipe is our favorite, we've been making it for several years. It has a little bit of a kick to it due to the dry mustard. Also, I like to add the sauce right before serving as I like the cabbage crisp and not soft and wilted. Great on Slaw Dogs:

    Bobby Flay’s Creamy Cole Slaw

    Ingredients

    * 1 head green cabbage, finely shredded
    * 2 large carrots, finely shredded
    * 3/4 cup best-quality mayonnaise
    * 2 tablespoons sour cream
    * 2 tablespoons grated Spanish onion
    * 2 tablespoons sugar, or to taste
    * 2 tablespoons white vinegar
    * 1 tablespoon dry mustard
    * 2 teaspoons celery salt
    * Salt and freshly ground pepper

    Directions

    Combine the shredded cabbage and carrots in a large bowl. Whisk together the mayonnaise, sour cream, onion, sugar, vinegar, mustard, celery salt, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl, and then add to the cabbage mixture. Mix well to combine and taste for seasoning; add more salt, pepper, or sugar if desired.
