Weber Q 1200

We just bought our first Weber Q.

Before hand we had the Coleman Road Trip Grill....needless to say my husband was never happy with the cooking and cleaning performance of this girl.

Weber Q, bought it and upon getting it home my husband instantly got the grill fired up for cooking.

He really likes this grill....he likes the way the chicken cooked on the grill.

So now I am asking, is there anyone that wants to share 'tricks of the trade"?

Hints or suggestions on keeping the inside bottom of the grill clean and looking decent?

Does everyone use the throw away aluminum pan that comes in the grease catching pan? Where do you buy extra aluminum pans(other the Weber's online site)? We actually covered the pan with foil and that worked well.

So far the grill is looking pretty good....

Thank you for any help.
  • Thank you all.

Last night after using the Weber Q, my husband cleaned the grills from cooking chicken.

There is a couple of cooked on areas. He wants perfect. Guess he will get over this in time as we use the new Weber Q more ;)

Oh he did mention about using oven cleaner on the grill rack. Any advice on this? A yes or a no to get the baked on food stains off?

I put some stones at the four corners to keep the aluminum foil down.
  • I found an old Rubbermaid tub lid that fit our Weber perfectly, so it rests on that while we travel. You can find replacement foil pains at most any store that sells Weber since they are used in other grills too. About once a year I clean out the inside of the grill, but I don't bother cleaning heavily after each use. As already stated take a sheet of foil, lay over the grill rack and turn it up, this will help burn off gunk from the grill rack itself and oils/fat from below. Take the foil tray and knock any chunks out and wipe out the interior, that way you don't go through as many.

My local Home Depot sells the drip trays.

I use a water spray bottle and small brass wire brush to clean the grill surface. I have not cleaned the bottom yet.

We bought ours a few months ago and love it. Cooked steaks and bake potatoes last night. I bought the potato nails from HD and they help speed up the cook time.
  • You can get the pan at the hardware store. We use a pressure washer every wear or two to get the inside.
  • I line the complete rounded bottom inside of grill with tin foil.
We have found the aluminum pans at regular grocery stores.
Occasionally, I take the grill to a car wash and use the high pressure spray to clean it.
