Keeping track of your postal mail while on the road

Hi, Im just wondering how everyone keeps track of their mail services while on the road. Let me know some tips and insight! Thank you!

How does everyone keep track of your postal mail when you're always traveling?

How important is it to Keep track of your mail?

Have you all sought forwarding mail services? Why or Why not?

  • We're fulltimers and use MYRVMail.com. All of our mail goes directly to them, we check the items we want and they forward it to wherever we are at the time.

Before we sold our house and spent a winter in Florida, we set it up with Myrvmail on a temporary basis. You can set it up on a month by month basis. It might be an option if you don't have a neighbor to check it for you.

There are quite a few different mail forwarding companies. Ours is in Florida
  • We are full timers... so on the road all year. No property.
Legal residents of SD via mail forwarding address at MY HOME ADDRESS.

(that's the name of our mail forwarding service in SD that handles our mail, takes care of renewing our vehicle plates... answers all our questions about elections, voter registration, new laws that might effect us and steered us to the best person in the world who handles our insurance on the vehicles.)

We bank online. (All our bills/invoices come to us via email or we can check on them online.) Honestly, this took 9 months to get right so start this now so it's ready to go when you are ready to full time. Picking out a good bank and having an inside person that you've known for a good while is very helpful.
It does not have to be a "nation wide" bank.

NOTHING important ever comes to us via snail mail. We send for our mail once
a month and pick an address where we are going to be and send it there. Sometimes it's sent to the post office where we are going to travel through, via general delivery. Again, MY HOME ADDRESS knows all about doing that. We've never lost a single piece of mail.
  • As a fulltimer for the past 7 yrs, I use a mail forwarding service in FL (St. Brendan's Isle). I usually get a mail drop about once a month. Most of my routine stuff is handled online. They have a new option now (along with other mail forwarding services) that they will scan envelopes and/or contents so you can see it online before requesting shipment.
  • We're not full timers (yet), so it's not as big of an issue, but we still ask our neighbor or our kids (if they don't go with us) to take it in each day....then, when we get home, it's all right there.
They will usually also water the plants, and keep things looking as if we are still in the house.
If we don't take all the dogs (8 of them) they will stop in to feed them, as well as the cats.

FT will be a challenge to be sure, but I think we'd do the same thing, but just have the mail (after the junk mail is gleened from it) put in a mailer and sent FedEx or Priority Mail to a CG we happen to be staying at.

Some of the "Mailbox, Etc." places will forward your mail for you, for a fee.
