Petsmart and Petco just announced that as of the end of the year/2015 they will no longer sell treats made in China in their stores.I don't believe it will include the tricky ones that are MADE in the USA FROM china products though. Watch for more of these to crop up.But at least it is a start. Not that they commit to selling treats made only in the U.S.A - or to any particular standard, for that matter.Hard to believe that they can placate the public merely by promising to stop using one particular country for a source, while making no moves whatever to monitor the contents of the food item.

Why don't they stop selling them now instead of waiting until 2015? Do they have to sell the rest of them to the public to clear out their inventory?

I have a simple solution.......we don't give our dog any store bought treats.

If they actually cared about your pet, they would stop selling those products immediately and "recall" those sold for full refund.

Why don't they stop selling them now instead of waiting until 2015? Do they have to sell the rest of them to the public to clear out their inventory?

One store said end of this year Dec.2014. The other store said March 2015.
I would assume that is how long it will take for their inventory to be sold. Ironic they admit they are unsafe but yet will sell what is in their inventory! Hmmm, sure sounds like that 'statement' 'could' be grounds for a lawsuit, I.E. knowingly selling a bad product!!

Because TV commercial advertising has convinced 98% of all pet owners they HAVE to buy them!! The wonderful power of advertising and the fact that 75% of the population can be brainwashed.:B:B

Oh - you're right - but what I'm counting on, is that if that cereal or those nacho chips make someone sick - the FDA will be on it in a flash. Not so much, if our pets get sick from a "dog treat" - because the first thing a manufacturer asks is what else (questionable) had your dog eaten lately? Bella has her fill of similar "treats" that are also free range, grass fed and in many cases nice & fresh instead of sun dried. ;) Thanks to the cotton tailed rabbits around our acreage. It's funny how Louie doesn't consider them edible but he will raid the litter box. :p

Sorta makes the whole thing sound ludicrous- everybody all het up about dog treats from China, but perfectly fine with Chinese ingredients in the food we humans eat! :S

I worked at a company and we made animal health products. A lot of ingredients came from overseas, mainly china. Some of those ingredients we used, we did not know what was in them and paperwork gave only the name of the final ingredient, telling nothing of its composition.
We grow strawberries and other fruits in North America but I remember watching a show on food content and they stated that the majority of dried fruits in products, come from China.

I wonder just how hard it would be to actually track down where each ingredient and the products in those ingredients come from, that make up something that we think is totally North American

The information I got is that they will stop by the end of this year. Still, why not now?

Just a guess, but maybe they have a contract with the manufacturers/suppliers/distributors? Considering all the suspicion surrounding these treats, you'd think a contract would be relatively easy to get out of. But since nothing has been proven . . . .

They are made in the USA from ingredients produced in the USA using "free range", "grass fed", "no growth hormones added” all American breed of sheep. They would be sun dried (not processed in some factory) and bagged by American workers (not illegals) working in healthy and enjoyable conditions.
