Tastiest Glucosamine chewable??

I've been feeding Jack and Jimmy Triple Joint Max chewables for years - but Jack has decided he doesn't like them now (not even when Ed dips it in his morning protein shake...LOL!) And Jack is 13 - he NEEDS the glucosamine. Jimmy eats them - but has his "GACK!" face on while doing it.... and I have to admit that they don't smell tasty, either...

I need a chewable. Not a tablet (Jack is NOT a cooperative pill-taker) and since he's a nibbler re: food - something that gets sprinkled on his food won't work either.

There are TONS of chewable joint-support products out there - I hate to waste money trying a bunch of brands. Which products do your dogs willingly eat??
  • Best one I've found is Joint Strong, but it is a powder/granular format. Mostly they seem to eat it willingly, tastes like sweet chicken (some humans take it, too and I have tasted it!).... but you'd have to mix it into a wad of something that he would eat as a treat.... that's the only idea I'd have.

No problem, the thought has crossed my mind a few times, too! He also doesn't cross bridges. Has always made me wonder what dreadful things happened in the year before we rescued him. As he ages, a lot of his bad habits are rearing their ugly heads again.

The easiest way is to shove it in their throat. Calvin takes pills without a problem. However, Harlee hated taking pills so I just opened her mouth and shoved it in her throat. No arguments, appeals, nothing, just shoved it in! ... :B

The more I read about joint supplements, the murkier it gets.... reports of labs being shut down and counterfeit products, etc.... sheesh. It's not cocaine - it's just glucosamine.

The Liquid form is interesting - but just shooting it into Jack's mouth won't work - he has "restrainment issues". Despite his age, he's strong as an ox and has jaws like a bear trap.

  • This is what we give our 14 yr. old....she thinks they are treats and looks forward to them.........LINK
  • Nutramax products are quality (more expensive) and consistent. They make chewables but I find they are not the most palatable.

Synovi-G 3 or 4, Aller-G are both very good patient acceptance.

There are others, but I find mostly it's a trial and error and find what works best with each individual.
