An Internet Explorer/Firefox question

I was having some trouble with my computer being slow and not working so one of the things I did was to download Firefox and I really do like it. Seems to have more safeguards than IE. Question: am I doing any potential harm by leaving IE installed? If the best thing to do is delete, what other program could I install to get on the internet if Firefox fails? I am using Windows 8.

THANKS!

I wonder what those sites are? I have used Firefox since its inception and never had that happen. I must be leading a sheltered life.
  • Some very good advice here with many good suggestions.

I also have Firefox, but I've had to use IE occasionally when the site won't work with Firefox. I also use duckduckgo as a search engine since it doesn't report back like Google. (Netflix comes to mind as a program that won't work with one, but will with others.)

For security, I have SuperAntiSpyware, Avast Software, and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, all free from CNet. All of these are working in a Windows 8.1 environment.
  • If you don't use IE, it can't cause you any harm. In fact, you can have as many browsers installed as you want. Even run all of them at the same time if you so desire.

it is almost impossible to delete internet Explorer.. But you can just ignore it (Do not use it)

There are a few things that slow down a Windows machine, (NOTE: I can not comment on an IOS or Lynux or Android machine as I do not know about them)

First is Patch Tuesday.. Imagine if you will a wound, you put on a band aid, it soaks through so you put another atop it, and another and another and a.. Well yo uget the idea... It's going to slow you down hauling all those band-aids right.... Same with your computer runnign Windows when they patch it every week . Layer after layer after.. Well you get the idea, of patches slow it down, No way around it if you want to play safe.

Mal-Ware, assorted types gobble clock cycles and slow it down.... SO...

Anti Mal-Ware programs such as Anti Virus and Firewall programs. Yup they take clock cycles as well.

But they do less harm than the programs they block.
  • Another reason to keep IE.. many wifi hotspots have trouble logging you in with anything other than IE.

I use IE to connect to McDonald's, then proceed with Chrome.

I too use FIREFOX and I think it is VERSION 30.0 now. I also have a couple of sites that require me to use IE Explorer so I just leave it on the machine. I haven't looked at my Internet Explorer in awhile I'm guessing it is still updating versions haha...

I will also use GOOGLE CHROME sometimes too. I like it as well but it seems to load up and fault on me alot so I just stay with FIREFOX.

I use ADVANCED SYSTEMCARE Ver 7.3 (FREE VERSION) and MALWAREBYTES ANTI-MALWARE (ALSO FREE VERSION) here... I run the Advanced SystemCare about every two-three days. I also have AVG2014 Installed that runs a check everytime I log on. It is also a FREE program...

Seems to keep up with all the hiccups here...

My computer is WINDOWS 7 HOME EDITION

  • I left IE installed and use it rarely. 95% of the time I use Chrome.

no. It won't get mad at you.
  • I left IE installed (and it is up to Version 10 now).
I have occasionally needed to use it for a site that doesn't play well with FF or one of my FF add-ons or plug ins.
  • Leave IE installed.
Have you run disk clean up?
Have you run program like Malwarebytes free version to clean out spyware and adware?
