Can I make my television play back through stereo receiver?

I have a Jensen JE1911 television connected via HDMI to a Jensen AWM975 stereo. I've been trying to find a way to get the TV to play back sound through the stereo system speakers instead of relying on the crappy TV speakers. Since these components were installed as a unit at the factory, you'd think there would be a way to make them play nice together. Has anyone figured out how to do this?

  • If your TV has audio output jacks and your sound system has matching audio input jacks you can connect the two with an audio cable and get the sound that way.
  • Try turning your tv speakers off in the tv menu. I am not sure if it will work for your configuration but that is what I had to do with our sound plate.
  • I'm not sure what kind of DVD - Stereo player is in my camper, but, in order to get the sound to play FROM the television to the DVD player so the surround sound would work, I had to hook up the red-white-yellow wires from the back to the TV output to the input of the DVD player. The HMDI cord works ONLY for playing DVD's from the player to the television, not the other way around. That's how I did it.

It's nice now, we use the television over-the-air. We can turn on the DVD player and flip on the surround sound and I can be outside cooking and look inside the camper through the windows and watch television and hear the sound from the outside speakers. Love it!

  • have you tried going to the SOUND setup menu on the TV? there might be an option to use your stereo.
