Look at car-pc websites. There are cases designed to be bolted down, and also power supplies that accept 12v input, so you don't need to be on shore power or run an inverter.

Other than that, RVs are mostly plywood on the inside - find the spot you want your PC to live, and put some lag screws through the case and into the floor (for example). Might want to look under the RV to make sure there's no water or electric lines in the way.

Build with an aluminum case so it has less inertia to bounce around while you're driving. A USB dvd+rw drive might be a good idea too, so it can be stored separately and plugged in when needed.

My setup works around my DEL M90 Workstation LAPTOP. This is my house setup which has the LAPTOP plugged into a DELL DOCKING STATION which feeds dual monitors ext keyboard, speakers, and mouse.

My other additional accessories to operate my Emergency Radio setup also plug directly into the docking stations port.

In my fifth wheel I had a computer desk setup with the Dell docking station and Monitors including the ext keyboard and mouse all permanently installed. The Docking station was down on a shelf completely out of the way. Just plug the LAPTOP into it and power up.

In my OFF-ROAD TRAILER I had several of these docking station components on a large 3/4-inch plyboard section placed in the non-sleeping tent bed end. there is only the two of so we only need the one tent bed.

I duplicated the same dell docking station , dual monitors etc in my RV setup. This makes it very easy to just take the M90 LAPTOP computer for my house and snap it in place in the same setup layout in my RV trailer. We don't use a desktop computer setup in the house - everything is LAPTOPS now... When we leave the RV trailer unattended we just take the LAPTOP with us...

Has worked out great for us.. I use the Verizon MIFI setup and have it sitting in a WILSON SLEEK cradle which has an external cell phone antenna. This gives us great internet coverage when in the Rv trailer just about everywhere we go thanks to the very wide coverage area offered by the VERIZON network.

The MIFI unit creates a super wide WIFI hot SPOT using the Wilson Sleek external antenna and allows us to connect up to five WIFI enables devices at the same time. We all use our tablets, a second HP laptop computer, etc just like we do at home...

If we go hiking or want to sit down on the beach etc we just bring the Verizon MIFI unit with us. It is small enough to fit in my shirt pocket.

We don't worry about the CG bad connections anymore using the Verizon MIFI WIFI Hot Spot. This also frees up our cell phones for anytime we need to use them.

On my radio Emergency field days Alerts pretty neat running the DUAL 24-inch Monitors in my OFF-RoAD POPUP trailer...

Having a LAPTOP verses a DESKTOP which is bolted down in the trailer somewhere makes more sense to us. I bring several different USB HArd Drives for the various hobbies we like to play with including photographs etc.. When we get back home I just snap the M90 LAPTOP back into the home Docking Station and don't have to mess with transferring things back and forth with a trailer mounted desktop setup.

we are going with a brand new RV likely a tour grade buss i want to have the option to use the computer while on the road. i do not want video cards becoming dislodged or any big bounces to effect the computer. mounting is not an issue in terms of structure as i will have this done at the dealer that will be customizing it i do how ever want to be able to change the case i consider weight an issue so an aluminum case will be a must but it should still be a full tower for 900 watt plus power supply and high end graphics card external dvr drive good idea they are built for slightly more bouncing then a internal but i will keep an internal for compatibility of installation an OS and just keep it unplugged when not used for OS install so what i am looking for is either a desk with a spring loaded shock absorber on or a wall mount clamp with a similar feature might be custom

If building a computer, I'd go all SSD other than your external backup drives (which should never be connected unless doing a copy.) That way, if your machine is running while on the road, data losses from a disk crash are minimized... but SSDs are not that reliable, so having a backup is still critical.

Don't discount laptops entirely. A Dell Latitude E6440 or something similar can boot Windows Server 2012 R2 in 3 seconds, especially if it has a decent SSD. Unless you are running the latest version of Crysis at full settings, the video is decent enough for gaming. It won't be as good as a desktop gaming rig, but it will definitely take up far less space.

Remember: Get the Latitude or business line. Not the home/consumer lines. Big difference in tier of service and such.

I do not want a laptop as this RV is for business and I will be spending allot of time in it after work or just hanging with friends. not much in the way of hiking or travel for pleasure I might have a tablet for taking notes outside of the RV or even reading PF manuals on complex equipment. as I am working for an independent film company my job would would make a laptop inconvenient to carry around a tablet is doable smaller and less expensive rather I am holding a shotgun mic or rigging a set I do not want to keep track of laptop nor would I want to use one while off duty they do not have the performance I want

we have the money to have this fabricated from scratch if we have no other choice

Call up Panasonic, General Dynamics, Allied Signal or TRW. They all sell computer systems that install in war machines, built to take a pounding.

Seriously though, if you look to the yellow pages for your area, and call some police / fire radio installers , they can direct you to an installer of military grade (police use them) computers. These are f-ing expensive, but have been built to take a pounding. The right case will have things like full length card supports to keep them from popping out of the slots, power and data connectors using screw-down covers or screw-in bulkhead type fittings, etc.

Or just buy a tower PC from alienware dell, and bolt it to the floor in your RV... it should last a while.

As long as the cards are screwed in good, I don't see a problem with the video cards coming loose.

Occasional bump down the road won't effect the only moving parts on it (fans) all that much. Assuming you are only using SSD drives. (not Hybrid!).

As far as latency. Note you will be doing battle with everyone else on that particular WiFi access point for the bandwidth and just the normal distance thing.

I would expect your keyboard/mouse latency to be non-issue compared to the 150-200---400ms you're going to see out of some of the Access point areas.

On a cheaper note: If can find them, I have a scientist that travels all over the world with his Shuttle PC. It has twin nVidia video cards and 4 SSD drives. He used to have normal hard drives in it, but they were failing and he wanted something more rugged. That PC probably has over 400,000 miles on it, including icebreaker time.
