DirecTV receiver only numbers on every other transponder
A guy several sites over from me is having this problem and I can't remember what to do to solve this. He has a 98 signal but gets no picture.

If only it were that easy. It's not.
It's certainly a good idea to do a reset but it is by no means a cure all.
Since your topic heading says you are only getting every other transponder it's more likely that one of the following things is true.
Pointed to wrong satellite.
Bad connection or cable.
Bad LNB.
Since you are using DirecTV, I would suggest that you go into the receiver setup menu, be sure you have the proper antenna type selected, go to signal meter and then signal strength. It should be showing satellite 101 and transponder 1. If you have this then exit and click the continue buttons until you reach the end. If you don't see a signal you are not properly pointed.

- I had a similar problem once and I was actually looking at the DISH SAT TV signal instead of DirecTv SAT TV signal which are very close to each other in the southern skies...
Found the correct satellite and all was well...
Roy Ken - Happened to us last summer. After a week of screaming at Direct TV, we took their advice and called Weingard.
Found out cables in constant use on a RV, versus stapled to a building, wear out in about 4 years. Ours were seven years old. Replaced the cables and all was well again.
