I have a 211K with 2 sat antennas. 1 antenna is a fixed Winegard Mission Roadtrip and the other is a Tailgater (original) on an A/B switch. Regardless of which antenna I use, the sound starts out dropping about every 5-6 seconds. It then gets worse to the point of sound dropping every other second. I have checked my COAX connections. The ones I can touch are all at least hand tight. I have checked the HDMI, also.Dish Tech Service asked me to check the above.Am I down to the receiver over heating? It is in a cabinet with the surround sound, behind the TV. I have a computer fan blowing air in. Is there something else to check.p.s. We have an Allegro 36LA.

We had a problem something like that. We turned the TV off then back on and it took care of our problem. It's worth a try!Good Luck

Try running the coax cable direct from the antenna to the 211k receiver, bypassing switches and internal wiring, to eliminate one question mark.

That's a classic sign of one of the receivers sound chips crapping the bed. The reason it gets progressively worse with time after turning on is due to the unit heating up. 211K's are good receivers simply for the amount of connection options if you only require a single tuner. Get a new one, cheap on Ebay.

The 211K is notoriously bad for the amount of heat they produce. If you have room, pull the receiver out and let it hang in the open air. You can even try putting some ice in a bag (maybe on a tray to catch any leaking) on the receiver to see if it solves the problem. If so, you have a bad receiver. Replace it with a Wally (smaller, runs cooler and has an RF remote) and you should be good to go.

Well, wife had some day surgery and that slowed me down.

I found the problem. Digital optical cable at the back of the HT. I pulled and reseated it and now have steady sound.

Well, I have come full circle. I bypassed the 1x2 HDMI switch and the problem continued. That is when it dawned on me that I was overlooking a piece of my setup. Videos on the HT played fine but not satellite as it does not originate on the HT. For the sat, I use Digital In on the HT. That means sound comes from the TV via Fiber optic digital cable. While watching sat. I found that if I switch to the TV speakers it is not dropping sound. Now I have to figure out if it is a loose connection at the devices, which can be resolved by reseating or if the fiber is broken. The good news, for us, is that we can watch sat. and listen to the TV speakers.

Yes. I am going to bypass it this weekend. When I find which switch it is, I will then order a new one. The ordering is what I cannot accomplish for a few days.

Well, you might be right. Got the new Wally up on the Dish Tailgater and it is dropping sound. I will bypass the splitters this weekend and see which one it is.

Splitter is HDMI - HDMI. Will look at that if the Wally does not cure the problem.

Have the Wally. Dish Tech Service activated for me but on the Winegard Mission Roadtrip, it would not download programming. This is not the TV program. This is software update. Local tech, on the phone, suggested I use the Tailgater (a Dish antenna) before he sends a tech out, with a sat dish antenna. Says actual Dish antennas seem to receive the programming better than other dishes. Will do that tonight.
