Since you lease the unit, it must be authorized at all times. I just ran into the reverse of this last winter. I wanted to turn off my Joey and Hoppers for the winter in the S&B house. Since they were leased, I couldn't do it. It is in the fine print of your contract. GRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!

I'm a little confused about the Hopper/Joey/VIP 211z wiring comments. When I received my VIP 211z/Tailgater package, the first thing I did was connect it to my home antenna, (removed the cable to my Hopper and connected it to the VIP 211z) to do it's download and to activate the receiver. It worked fine no wiring changes. I also had to talk to a supervisor to activate the VIP 211z on my current home account. My understanding is that this restriction was a marketing one not due to incompatibility of the two technologies. The supervisor immediately knew what I was trying to do and activated the receiver. I did have some issues with adding an external drive to enable the DVR function, but that is for another thread.

I said it cannot be connected to the wiring used by the Hopper setup and that is correct exactly as I stated it.
I know there are ways to run addition wiring that would separate out 211 receiver from the Hopper wiring and allow usage, I just didn't see where going into that much detail was necessary. Have you seen all that wiring?! I believe that if you are only using a solo node, the 3rd output from the antenna can be run directly to a 211 which also allows a connection separate from the Hopper/Joey wiring.

Not correct. You not only can have a Hopper and 211 on the same account, but you can also wire them to the same dish.

Since the Hopper was released, DISH has had wiring diagrams that show how to create a Hopper/VIP receiver network (PDF) (see pages 9 & 17).

BTW, the original DISH drawings just said "Optional VIP Receiver", not "Optional VIP Receiver (Tailgater)". It looks other VIP receivers could work besides the 211.

These mixed networks are complicated, but an RV Hopper/VIP network (PDF) is certainly doable.

While your first words are "Not correct", the fact is that you have only one account just as I suggested was the correct course of action. Homeowners with Hopper's are a bit of a special case since you cannot connect a standard receiver to the wiring used by the Hopper/Joey setup. Dish is allowing you to add a 211/411 receiver to a Hopper/Joey account. We also agree that you can turn this receiver on and off and you only get charged for service during the months that this receiver is active.

Add some sugar to your perceived lemon and get some lemonAID.
Forget the old receiver and move one of the ones you presently use at home to the RV. Use the appropriate Dish Antenna and there is no need to pay 7 or 14 bucks extra. Forget about the local home channels if you camp far away and there is certainly no need to notify Dish by phone. Works/worked for me for years.
This is all I need other than one of my home receivers.

You can only have one Dish account if you want to keep the costs down. If you want a home account and an RV account then you are going to have to pay the full $60/month for each account. You will either have a lease fee or an added receiver fee for each receiver on the account. If you want to activate the 222K just call Dish and have them activate the receiver on your current account. There's no need to mention the RV. Now, you can use that receiver anywhere you choose (RV and/or home) and when you are not using that receiver call Dish and let them know you will not need service on that receiver for the next XX months and they will shut it down and charge you nothing during that time. If you use the receiver for even one day in any month it will incur the $7/month fee but otherwise, no fees.

Not correct. Call and ask to talk to a supervisor/RV specialist. They have to do a supervisor override to have a combined RV and home account. I know, I went through HELL. I have a Joey and 2 Hoppers in the S&B, a receiver in the MH and a Tailgator in the summer TT. When I call in to change my location on my RV receiver, I still get the occasional hassle. I tell them to not go there or connect me with a supervisor. Turn the Tailgator and MH receiver on and off several times a year, all on one account with the home. You just have be firm with the low level people.

Dish charges me $7 per month when the RV receivers are on and nothing when off.

Dish makes the rules.. The problem is this: you have to CLOSE the existing account and open a new RV account. When you CLOSE the existing account you have to return the leased receiver.

Problem 2: They may not let you use the same receiver for the RV account, you may have to "Upgrade" to a VIP-211K for the RV. (This I am 100% unsure of however).

Of course, repeated calling back sometimes helps.

Two more things that might help.
1 Mention that DirecTV can still offer Distant Network Service
2 Mention that with DirecTV, you can run multiple receivers or even a Dual-channel DVR and get all your Stanard Def programming, where as with DISH, and a DOME type antenna... (In motion dome) that is not possible.
