I would look at the Winegard Playmaker as well and a 211K, Z or Wally should be fine.

Be sure you have them setup a Pay-as-you-go account. There is a new plan called Flex and you do not want that.
You get the service setup in 30 day blocks (or 60 or 90 if you want to pay in advance) but do not leave a CC # on file for auto billing. At the end of the period you have paid for the account will just end. If you need more time just call again before service terminates and add another 30 day block.

Just get a portable antenna and take your existing receiver with you! That's literally all. The only thing you will lose is your home Networks when you are a few hundred miles from home. You can use your OTA TV antenna to watch the Networks if you are moving frequently or you can call Dish and have them change the "service address" (only) so you can view Network programming from the current city nearby.

I followed a somewhat different path. We already had Dish in the house so I purchased a receiver and antenna for the RV. It costs another $7/mo. to add the RV to my existing account. For that nominal amount I leave it active year 'round. I can use it whenever we go camping throughout the summer. After we arrive in Texas for the winter I just change my service location and I get the local channels. Since I have only one account I must leave the receiver in the house still active. But with the Dish Anywhere feature I'm able to control my house receiver with my iPhone and watch or record programs remotely. That comes in handy if we're away from the RV and I still want to catch up on football scores or watch a game. Works well for us. Hope this helps.

two options that I can think of. either take your receiver with you and simply change your service location to your winter quarters or get a second receiver for $5 or so per month.

You need to take charge of the call when turning off. State that it is an RV account!
State you own your equipment!
State you want to cancel your service, you then have six to nine months to restart it.
You should not need to pay anything at that time, unless past due for service.

To start back you just need to call and state you want to restart, and pay enough to have a full months credit.
Yes sometimes a hassle, but the picture quality is great and worth it, not that the should make better. Just opt in to the survey and state what a hassle it is to start and stop RV account service.

yes. we're also on DISH. most of the cust. support people you will encounter are not aware of or have no experience with RV accounts. that accounts for the variety of answers you've received. there used to be a separate RV accounts phone number but that was discontinued a while back.

here's what we do. first, if you haven't done so create an online account with DISH. that will minimize your contact with DISH.

next, if you have your account set to auto-pay each month remove that option from your account. you can either pay your bill via your online account or by phone without human contact.

when you're ready to turn off your account simply stop paying your bill. you'll get email reminders but you can safely ignore them. when it's time to re-start you may have to call and speak to a CSR as your online acct access may be suspended due to inactivity. simply tell them you are in an RV and want to reactivate your account. that's it.

for residential accounts DISH allows customers to "suspend" their accounts for up to 8-months in each calendar year. as RV'ers we own our equipment and we are month-to-month, no 2yr contract.

I agree.
I do get some charges to my account.
When I call them to restart, they zero out the balance and then my service restarts.

I found it a pain also as they showed me as non payment for at least the following month and to reactivate they wanted the back month . After 2 months it went away and I could restart without hassle. Teri system is flawed in that I kept getting late payment emails until the following month .. Just the way the sysytem works was what I was told , and disregard the notices . Finally went full time and just bought the service and done with the on off problem.
