Dish tv 2nd remote programing

to start off I have dish 622 receiver,my set up is main tv hdmi hookup, bedroom tv,cable hook up and outside tv which is split off bedroom recently I got a second dish remote for outside to control tv and dish receiver, remote ok for tv but not dish receiver, called dish to program remote, told to press menu twice on #1 remote (main room remote)you then see primary and secondary remote address.Mine was 3 on secondary remote then told to press record on remote, low and behold 3 went to 1 and remote works.NOW FOR THE FUN.then went to use remote in bedroom and of course it dosen't work. Called dish and told you can't have 2 second tv remotes,"it won't work.ok so sat and started playing and noticed if I push and hold sat button on remote all function buttons flash as if you weer programing remote for tv,so for the heck of it I pressed 1(the new second remote address) then # sat lite blinked twice and I now I have 2 second tv remotes, guess dish needs to study their own equipment a little more.

  • The offical dish line is one remote. However I have found that the system can be at least partially tricked to use two remotes. What I can not get it to do is run both the tv and the box on both remotes. Only one will connect to both. The other will not connect to the tv. Also, be aware of the fact that some dish remotes have a series of plastic colored chips that contol the frequencies that the remote operates on. We have 4 different colored "chips", numbered 1?4, each of a different color. These were older remotes for a VIP 711. Our current hopper has what appears to be a removable black chip on the bottom end but I have had no reason to see if it will pry off.
    Hope this helps.

  • Dick... that's very interesting and informative. Good Job. However, I've found that no two DISH representatives (service or otherwise) will give you the same answer to a single question. I bet that if you had called again and got a different person, you probably would have been given the correct answer.

ps... no disrespect, but I had a hard time reading and understanding your post due to lack of punctuation. Splitting up your sentences with periods and double spacing would have helped tremendously.

    Dish has two DIFFERENT remotes

Remote #1` is infra red and talks to the receiver via an I/R Receiver on the front of the receivr

Remote #2 (Says 2 on it) is an RF remote and talks to the receivr over a small UHF antenna on the rear.. I can give you the specs on the antenna if you need to make one yorur self.

Get an antenna "Stinger" (Cb Shop) at least 8 inches long

Cut it to 8 inches long

90 Degree bend at 1 inch from the cut

Machine the last half inch (of the bent part) so it is the same size as the center wire on a piece of RG-6 cable

Take the center insulator from 1/2 inch of RG-6 and slip it over the bent part, pushing it all the way to the bend

Insert in a standard Crimp On "F" connector (skip the crimp ring) and use glue to secure it

    That's your UHF antenna.
