Distorted Audio o RCA TV

I have a Dish Satellite 211 Receiver working off of a Tailgater. I also have an external hard drive with recordings on it. When playing a recording, if I fast forward, occasionally audio on the television will become greatly distorted. If I turn the TV off and back on, it's just fine. Any idea of what is going on?

Oh, Just thought of another POSSIBLE solution .. I use this with selected shows (IE: PBS Pledge Drive Music Specials) .. My DVR feeds not only the TV (A/V feed, Red, White and Yellow coaxial (RCA or PHONO) connecctors) but also my "home theater" audio amp/AM/FM/FM radio receiver.

I silence the TV and play via the analog feed to the Home Theater (i can digital feed it too) That way it's fed much like your rear TV

Of course not all RV's have that option.

That is because the Componet connection is sending analog audio down the line, not digital.. So "Data Sync" is not an issue.

I do not know the cause of the issue.. But suspect the receiver (Sat box) is screwing up when in fast forward and dropping bits.. This is causing the problem.

True story back in the old days of analog TV.. We were at a campground's TV which had a bad audio amp.. Very distorted, Watching the Detroit Tigers win a World Series.. Finally I got tired of the crappy sound and said "I'll fix it" went back to my RV, got my Boom box. Tuned in Earnie Harwell on WJR and silenced the TV.

Perfect audio from WJR.. and from that day one most eveyone in the room watched baseball games while listening to the radio. At least till they fired Earnie.
  • Thanks for the response and research. The RCA is the primary TV and receives HDMI from the satellite fed receiver. As you suggested, turning the TV off, then on resolves the problem. But it's annoying.

The bedroom TV is fed via component connection and doesn't share the problem.

How is the audio being sent: Three options
1: RF, (Antenna input on TV)
2: HDMI (I am not fully up on this)
    3: A/V
    4: Optical

Ok, Most likely HDMI (Your question caused me to learn about HDMI)_ this is a fully digital interface, all data is sent digitally encoded and decoded by the display unit (TV).. What I am about to post applies to Optical, Coxial Digital and HDMI

For things to work properly the sender and the receiver must by "in sync" now I do not know the protocol (yet) used by HDMI but Most protocols include some sync info. But if it gets out of sync far enough, Well, you know better than I what happens cause you are expierencing it.

Resetting (Turn TV off and on, or possibly the DVR) should fix.

Two methods of syncing data exchange.. Synchronous and asynchronous. The latter every byte of data contains sync info, Very rugged, but slower.. I think HDMI uses the first.
