Inexpensive device to avi play video

Thanks all. The only thing I was hoping was to keep my 5.1 surround with DVD player. Yes I realize that I might have to drop a bit more money and catch up with technology. I'll look at all your suggestions and see what I can make work.

I have a Mediasonic HW-150PVR. It plays most flavors of video. It has most of the common video and audio outputs:

Video:
RF (Ch 3/4) both video and audio
Composite (RCA yellow) video only
Component (RCA red-green-blue) video only
HDMI both video and audio

Audio:
RF (Ch 3/4)
Stereo - RCA red(left) white(right)
Coax S/PDIF digital audio
HDMI

To get surround sound you would connect the HDMI or S/PDIF coax output to an audio system capable of processing these signals. The stereo RCA (red/white) outputs can not be used for surround sound.

It has one ATSC TV tuner and by adding a USB drive it can record OTA TV broadcasts. The recording is the same quality that is sent by the TV station. The highest quality currently being broadcast is 1080i Mpeg-2. CBS, NBC, and PBS typically broadcast 1080i. Fox and ABC broadcast 720p.

The Mediasonic box sells for about $33.

Many players out there
But many do not have component video out
Only hdmi or two cable AV

Might fit your needs, it does have component out put
It does play from a usb stick, or drive
But i don't know if it will play the video formats you have
If you have some weird mkv, videos or some hevc encoded videos
It may not play those
It will play the majority of mp4 , recordings
It will record ota digital TV, in h264 mp4 video in hi def 720 or 1080 which ever the broadcaster is using
I know you didn't ask, but that is what it is designed for, which is why component video out is included
And yes it's less than $50 on Amazon

I have a smallish blue ray/dvd player with that capability. It was $68 new.
It's a few years old now. Dunno if they still make them that way.

i have one of these that will play usb stick avi's and also record off it's digital tuner Ematic AT103B there are a lot of media players,dvd players and some tv's will from there usb port. or some thing like this Micca Speck G2

Search for USB media player. I couldn't find any with the red white and yellow outputs, everything is HDMI.

Another thing to search for would be a "Kodi Box" ... Most Kodi are sold to pirate movies and shows, but they do have legitimate uses like your request.

Last option would be to ditch the Jayco 5.1 and use a simple $50 Android Tablet from Wal-Mart.
