Need DVD player recommendation

The original RCA DVD player in our 2006 Tioga is not working and we need to replace it. It has to have the speaker outputs in the rear and connection for the sat tv. The speaker connections are the bare wire type with the spring clips, not RCA jacks.

I'm not up to snuff on late model home theater equipment and afraid to purchase one that will not be compatible with the RV. But we don't need anything fancy, in fact a single disc is just fine. Most of the players I see online do not have the speaker connections I need. Any advice is much appreciated!
  • goto radio shack, buy some rca jacks to put on the end of your speaker wires

then go buy any DVD player you like that fits in that space

but i don't know of any DVD player that ever had bare wire audio connector

IT sounds like you are talking about a unit that has an amplifier built in and is connected directly to speakers

that is NOT going to be as easy to find

DVD players are normally audio signal into the TV, not speaker connected
  • Thanks for the reply. I was wondering if the DVD was also an amp of some kind because there is no other amp/tuner. It has not worked since we have owned it. Since the MH had the optional home theater system of the day, the majority of the wiring all leads to that DVD player in a pretty fat harness.

Edit: I went out and took a pic of the wiring at the back of the player, and it does not appear to be an amplifier.....

  • Actually these things are pretty common and all are 5.1 Surround, but plan on spending several hundred $$
    BestBuy
    Fry's
    Amazon
    Crutchfield
  • i have NO experience with one like that
IF those wires go directly to speakers, then the AMP is built in
you can't "drive" speakers with pre-amp signals

Do you have another Amplifier for the speakers ?

either way, a replacement unit is not going be a $49 special

Do you have the Brand and model number of that unit?

Maybe we can hunt up another model that will work.

Take a look at this one for $100:

    http://www.amazon.com/RCA-RTD3133H-Home-Theater-System/dp/B004RT1L2Q
It seems to fit your needs.

It is an RCA RTD255. From what I can tell, the MH came with a complete surround sound system, like the one you posted on Amazon. I am not exactly sure what all came with this MH. All that is there now is the DVD, Direct TV boxes, and an Apex flat screen that they replaced the original glass tube TV with.

It looks like the only way you can buy these 5.1 surround sound DVD players is as a complete systems, speakers and all. I may just start over with a standard DVD player running through the TV speakers. We don't really need surround.
  • Another thing I noticed, is the AM and FM antenna leads in the rear of the DVD player. Yet there is no tuner in the DVD. It does have an outside stereo which also does not work, so I assume somehow it also runs through the DVD.
  • If you've already got the surround speakers, the sat receiver, and the TV, why not just get a new system and pitch the parts you don't need? There is nothing magic about an "RV" video system, so you can install anything that will provide what you want.

Every outside stereo I've seen (why someone needs this is a mystery to me!) has been completely separate from the inside system.

Finally, are you sure that DVD isn't working? I'd pull it inside the house and test it out some more.
  • I'm all about easy.....lol. I figured it would be easiest to just pull the speaker wires out of the current player and hook them back up to a working player that had the same plug-in's. Yea, we have no use for outside stereo either. But the unit has AM and FM antenna ports that have wires going to them. Why would it since it has no tuner in the DVD player? Anyway, not sure which route I will go at this point.
  • Well, to make a long story short, I got it working. I did not have a manual for the TV and could not figure out how to get the screen to work. So, I got up behind it and got the model number, looked online for a manual, and got it to work.

So far the DVD player seems to be working as it should. Feeling a bit dumb for not thinking of this sooner. We never had the TV working because, even though it has the Direct TV box and antenna, we don't subscribe to it, so never used it. But we are going to be in a campground with hookups here in another week, so will test it to see if cable works.

Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions.
