I'm in Quartzsite having trouble getting local channels on Directv.I spent a good 2 hours yesterday with both chat and phone, and they assure me everything is fine on their end. The problem may be on my end as I cannot get any signal on the 99(s) or 103(s) birds, which I understand are the spot beam satellites. I really don't know if that's true. My 'All channels' guide shows me still getting Utah (SLC) locals, which show "771- Signal loss on Satellite in 2." To reach the dish from my RV I have two coax cables joined with one barrel connector, no splitters, Slimline SWM tripod-mounted dish, 101 sat is 95%. I've refreshed the receiver and rebooted it several times with no luck. I've tried aiming the dish to get a 99(s) signal, but I can't get a peep out of it. Can't say I've ever had this problem where it wasn't DTV's fault because sometimes they don't put their best technicians on at night.

Did you do the the menu, channels, all channels?Mymguess you habe the channels the locals on turned off.

Are you using a 3LNB dish? If not, you can only get the 101 satellite. If you do have a 3LNB dish and are locked onto the 101, you need to set the skew to 109° (for Quartzite) to get the 99 and 103 satellites AND the tripod has to be absolutely plumb.

Sounds to me like your missing a sat. The guide means nothing. It only show what you successfully downloaded last time you had the correct sat.Did you give DTV a new service location (zip code?)What signal strength is on the other sats?

I'm beginning to think the same thing.

I have gotten more competent help during the day rather than evenings. This time was no exception. They kept asking me for my phone number (the one they've had on file for 10 years) so they can use it to sell me stuff. One chat guy said he couldn't change my locals because the address wasn't "registered"... whatever that means. Then he said he'd have to transfer me to a moving specialist (that's a first), who also didn't do what I wanted. Then when the chat was ending with no results, they assured me it would be fixed and gave me this long case number.. none of which means a thing.

I don't know, either they're just incompetent or are trying to discourage RVers from doing this. It's not like I'm abusing their service by asking for it once a week.

Should I ever need this again I will call during a weekday business hours.

Call the number on DTVs web site for “moving your DirecTv” you get people that know what their doing and it only takes minutes.

Check the title - he has DTV not Dish.

There are definitely spot beams with locals that cover Q. Both LA and Phoenix spot beams cover Q with good signal strength.

And if your implying Q does dot have OTA stations that is likely correct.

I do not recommend DTV chat for service address changes.

I also wondered if part of your DTV issue was related to no Q locals, so you had no locals and also did not have DNS. If there are locals like say Yuma or Lake Havasu City they would not interest me. So I'm happy with the LA or Phoenix locals.

Yes the LA spot beam is large covering parts of Northern CA, NV and AZ.

The LA spot beam and locals do not include the rest of the US. DNS (Distant Network Services) which includes the LA and NY national programs only and is nation wide. DNS is for mobile and requires documentation, extra charges, etc. And if you live in a area with no locals then DNS is a option as that is the only way you can get the national programs.

With DNS you may/may not be able to get locals for say Chicago. There have been posts on this and other considerations.
