Our Winegard SK3003 satellite dish has a problem...Help

This is a 2012 dish and is SD, not HD.

DirecTV screen tells us X771 (can't find satellite). Took to a RV service center and it turns out there is one bad cable...maybe (still checking).. This dish has three cable outputs and maybe only two are needed, says the tech.

We want to add another receiver in the bedroom (none there now) so DW can watch separate programming in bedroom while The King watches football or dumb movies up front.

DirecTV tech here couple of days ago and said probably a cable problem.

Can anyone give me a overall view of the SK3003 and how many cables do I need.

Thanks

  • All is well....finally. Tech switched output B on dish (inoperative) to output C and that solved problem. It did take a call to DirecTV to switch receiver from house antenna to RV antenna input....

Thanks to all for your inputs...much appreciated.

I think that was the model I had some years ago. If so, there is a control cable that goes to a control box and then two cables that carry the satellite signal. You can either bring these two cables in (one to each receiver), or bring (either) one in and use a DirecTV splitter to bring the signal to the two receivers.

A splitter will allow different channels to different receivers only if it is a SWM system and a SWM splitter. If it is not SWM, you MUST have 2 separate coax cables, one to each receiver, to get different channels on the separate TVs.

The SK3003 is not a SWM antenna.

The coax's running from the LNB to the top of the turret go into ports labeled A_B_C(D?). The port C coax at the top of the turret as that carries the control signal as well. At the base you can connect to any of the available outputs or you can swap the A and B cables on the top of the turret to see if your connection returns. You do need to run one coax to each receiver input so 2 single tuner receivers would need just one coax run to each but a DVR would need to coax runs and the second receiver would need a 3rd.
  • My SK-3004 failed after 13 months. Sent it back to Winegard, it spend three weeks at a dealer. No one could determine what the problem was. Winegard replaced it with a SK-SWM and not had one more problem.

  • we don't have your same dish, but your dish has 3 LNB's. For 2 receivers you should need 2 cables. But that depends on how your RV is wired. On our 2004 DP we also could not watch separate channels in the bedroom. The solution was to put a splitter in the front where the cables from the dish come into the coach, then cable that into the Winegard distribution box. Then in the bedroom, put in a diplexer before the receiver. This prevented us from having to run new cable from the dish to the bedroom receiver. It was a lot less expensive. When I access the Directv in the bedroom, I use the input button on the remote. Sats2Go in Houston TX set it up for us. There is also a great RV Satellite company in Junction City OR called Advanced Satellite. They specialize in RV satellite systems and installed many satellite systems in Country Coach RV's.
