Pathway X2 Dish mount

Does anyone know why the instructions don't want you to use a ladder mount for this dish. I want to fabricate a mount and am wondering why they are warning against it. Sure hate to lose this mounting option.

  • Thanks Robin, good information I will check that out.

I didn't mean to indicate I was looking to fabricate a permanent mount. I stated I was going for another option rather than it sitting on the ground or tripod. A quick release ladder mount sometimes provides for better satellite reception over bushes and smaller trees. Other portable dishes, like the tailgater, sell ladder mounts for them. I have yet to see anyone selling a mount for the Pathway X2, which is why I asked.
I had a Tailgater that fit on the Pathway x2 tripod mount. I also had the Tailgater ladder mount but I never tried it with the Pathway x2. If you are going to use the Tailgater ladder mount I would go to an RV dealer and see if they have both and see if the Pathway x2 will fit the Tailgater ladder mount. I can see no reason why you couldn't drag the Pathway up as a non-transit option.

Winegard knows that a "temporary" mount has a tendency to become permanent. Then when the antenna becomes inoperable due to being left on this "temporary" mount during transit and returned for warranty repair, it has to deny coverage and loose a customer. So the easiest way to control warranty expense and customer satisfaction in the first place is to not offer a "temporary" ladder/roof mount. I worked for a very large multi-national company and these type of decisions are made to account for any circumstance that could cost the company money or product liability/customer satisfaction.

  • The reason is very simple, both the Answer and the Pathway x2 require the units to be manually rotated to a stored position to prevent damage during transit. Since Winegard knows this will not happen if they are mounted permanently on a ladder or roof, they warn against ladder or roof mounting.
  • My instructions say the same, but I've always planned to figure out a temporary mount on the roof for my Anser, for a time I might need some extra height to find a signal. Haven't needed it, hence haven't done it. I wouldn't want to mount it permanently for my needs.

Well for one thing the Pathway is designed to be a portable dish. There is no real benefit to mounting a portable on the roof that I can think of unless you are thinking of it being more secure from having someone walk off with it. In my years using portables, first the Tailgater and now the X2 the last 2 years, security has never been an issue.

Personally if I wanted a dish on the roof I'd buy one made for that.

    Good luck.
