RVND 7710 lifetime updates

When I purchased my RVND7710 in Feb, 2012 I was told it included lifetime updates. I follow the on-line instructions, unit connected, plugged in, etc... but there is no icon or item to select to get the update per the instructions in the manual. I contacted Rand and they say I have to purchase the update program for $90 .... I've found where some others had this same problem and feel I was mislead at time of purchase. I honestly don't recall how I had this impression, but know it was one of the reasons I purchased the unit...
  • Sorry, to hear that problem.
We use a Garmin with lifetime updates and never had a problem and if we did they have live chat to help out.
Maybe a upgrade (downgrade) depending on how you look at it.
  • I have a rand mcnalley also. When I bought, I also thought I had the lifetime maps. When they replaced my unit due to a faulty usb port, I questioned this and was told they offered them in a very limited time. Mine did not fall within their guidelines, so I not have the map update.
  • I'm running into the same issue. After moving the RVND 7710 to my laptop, it no longer recognizes me as the registered user and hence says lifetime maps are not supported. Grrrr

I have the original email from where I purchased the device and it shows "Free Lifetime Maps" right in the purchase receipt.

I've send an email to Rand McNally asking for clarification... when I get the response, I let y'all know if there is any joy.
