Satellite-East/West Coast Feeds

We live on the West coast and get reception from LA. Now we are traveling across country and would like to get East coast feeds. Otherwise it is 9PM before we get the 6 o'clock news from LA. As a warning, I am not that savvy about satellite technology. Is this possible to do and if so, how?

  • You are likely grandfathered in so that does not apply to those trying to get the service today.
  • We have both E and W DNS on our DirectV service and have had for a long time. Includes ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox.
  • If you are getting LA DNS channels there is no way to change that service to the NY feed. What many have been able to do is have the NY feed added giving you both E and W for an extra $5/month. The first person is likely to tell you that this cannot be done but it can be. You may need to ask for a supervisor or call multiple times but it is allowed. It used to be a standard thing so those of us who have had the service for many years still receive both E and W for $20/month.
  • To clarify , you have directv and are getting the LA west coast dns (distant network ).?? This is what it sounds like as Dish only offers small spot beams of locals and no nationwide feed. I could be mistaken but are you asking to change the directv from west coast to east coast dns ? I haven't had direct for some years so I can't say, but others should know At one time you could even get both but I don't believe you can anymore I think your feed is based on your home address , maybe changing service address? But others will know better if that's what you are trying to do.

Are you a DirecTV or Dish customer? What kind of antenna are you using? You can always use your OTA antenna to watch the local news when you relocate and then watch the rest of the programming via satellite. What you can do varies greatly depending upon your service provider and antenna type.
  • Get Dish and you can get local network channels from the city you are closest to at the time. Then everything is always at the correct time for the time zone you are in.
  • I have DirectTV. I was able to call them and subscribe to some specialty channels. I believe they charged $3 for each.
Look at your menu for up around 390-400 for channels
