Sirius-XM Beware!

We had this service for several years on both vehicles. We never paid the full price and agreed to renew based on being offered much better prices. We also said do not agree to "auto-renewal". We agreed to pay $2 extra to be mailed a paper bill. Last year we didn't pay when the paper bill came and didn't listen anymore on our vehicles. Now, we receive a bill for $208 and didn't pay. Lately receiving phone calls and emails stating we owe this amount and all policies are "auto-renewal" and you agreed to this! We never agreed to this! What a rip-off company!!! NO, they don't have our credit card info. Beware

  • I had dealings with Sirius as well. I usually call to cancel before it renews and get offered the better deal. I end up paying $79cdn plus $20 royalty fee and tax, so a little over $100. I'm ok at that price but not for the $180 they usually want.

This spring I ordered a new truck which came with 1 year free. The truck would arrive near the time my current subscription expired. I got the renewal notification and called to cancel, explaining that I didn't need it because new truck came with it for a year. Two months later I noticed a charge on my credit card for $228 for renewal! I called to complain and get a refund. They say they had no record of my cancellation but promised a refund. Two weeks go by and still no refund. I call and get told again there is no record of request. Eventually I manage to speak to somebody competent and get a refund a few days later.

I think it always auto renews but they are required to notify you in advance. Always call to cancel and get a better rate.

We told them last year we were canceling by phone. Several years ago the person from Guatemala said you can get a paper copy and just not pay. We repeatedly said no to any auto-renewal and the person said you can do that. We haven't listened to their service since. That is what we did. Now they say from Guatemala that there is nothing but auto-renewal.They ignored our phone call last year. I asked for any signed agreement and they say it is all by phone. My real point is don't believe a word they tell you over the phone! Never give them your credit card which we didn't. There, my rant is over.

    READ THEIR TOS!

    Found HERE

"Your Subscription may automatically renew under this Agreement.
Your Subscription will continue for the length of the initial term you select on your plan and at the end of your prepaid Subscription, it will automatically renew for additional prepaid periods
of the same length unless you choose to cancel prior to that renewal
. In order to cancel your subscription you must call us at 1-866-
    635-2349.
Your account will automatically be charged (or you will be billed, as applicable) at the rates in effect at the time of renewal."

Seams extremely CLEAR and they have clearly mentioned auto renewal and the fact you MUST CALL THEM TO CANCEL..

Later on the TOS it does mention a THREE DAY WINDOW to cancel the automatic renewal for the next year of service.

It is in there, you should always READ THE TOS or FINE PRINT before agreeing or signing any legal binding agreements..
  • It's the Sirius Scam. They do this all the time. They will lie to you, like DirectTV, then bill you anyway if you don't make a call to a specific number and request cancellation. Good thing you didn't give them a credit card number.
  • Same issue here, no more Sirius for me.

Had a similar issue with GS roadside assistance. Cancelled last year because they claimed I agreed to auto renewal. They recently sent me a " bargain price " offer to sign up again. I read the fine print. Price was good only if I agreed to auto renewal. I declined. Pretty common trick to get you. Sad thing is GS offers new customers 50.00 off what they auto renewed mine at. BS

  • They are notorius for this. The best way to deal with this company is to buy a gift card from somewhere and only use it. NEVER give them their credit card number.

So, you just simply quit paying the bill? I don't think you read the fine print.

Did you get this in writing?

If so, do you have a copy of that agreement, that is your proof.

Or was this over the phone?

If so, did you get a paper agreement?

    BIG difference.

What does their CURRENT TOS say from their website?

I think you will find that by agreeing over the phone and no paper document backing you up that the TOS at that time did not require auto renewal.. You are out of luck.

Personally, you are most likely "at fault" since you did not at least call to cancel.

Pretty much now days EVERYTHING you pay for is auto renewal and to ensure you don't get back billed like you did, you MUST CALL AND CANCEL.
  • "We never agreed to this!"

Unfortunately, yes you did. As did all of us.
