strange phone calls
I noted a few minutes ago that the "Tech" forum has a thread revolving around getting a call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft to tell you your computer has a problem, and I thought I ought to bring that thread along with my recent experience into THIS forum, lest anyone fall for this scam.
First of all Microsoft is not going to call YOU or me about anything, ever.
In my case, just a few days ago, I got a call from someone trying to tell me that "we" think your computer has a problem. No reference was made to either Microsoft or the caller's employer (maybe they are getting smarter?). He asked me to turn my computer on. Since I work on my computer, it is hardly ever off, and I told him it was already on.
To which he said "we see that you have a problem with your keyboard."
Fact: there is no way he could tell that, he's already proven he has a line of Bull to peddle ya.
Evidently there is a scam making the rounds right now, looking for folks who are not very computer savvy. Don't fall for this stuff. Nobody reputable will ever call you out of the blue to tell you your computer is troubled. At worst, your ISP might simply cut you off because you have a problem, but they are not going to call you about it.
I have no idea what that clown wanted, I hung up on him. My guess is either to direct me to a web site where I could be infected with some bogus malware OR a credit card number to sell me a bogus "fix" for my purported problem. Or maybe it was something else. The point is, just hang up. Make them think of some other method of stealing your money.
