- catfishmontanaExplorerThe torsion bar in the ram tailgates make them feel really light. On my past 2011 F350 with the tailgate step, that tailgate was heavy as heck. Having a large box or something under one arm and opening the tailgate was.....well, it was heavy. Loved having the EZ down on the Ford.

As I understand it, the RAM's tailgate's are not assisted or damped like the Ford and GM are. Am I wrong on that?
From the 2014 3500 section of RamTrucks.com:
"Tailgates tend to take the toughest abuse on almost every job. So we’ve equipped all of our tailgates with the Ram Truck Tailgate Lift Assist, a resilient tension-releasing torsion bar that helps make lowering your tailgate smooth and easy for years to come."
Now I've never let mine just go to see if it's a controlled fall or if it just slams down, but I can easily open and close it with one hand. - ib516Explorer II

Did the accessories order just now online.
I got the following coming to me:
- Undercover FLEX tri-fold hard tonneau cover
- Front & rear mud flaps
- 4" oval tube steps
- Weathertech floor liners front & rear
- Tailgate assist by DeeZee
- Tailgate weather seal
Going to be busy day installing all this when the truck comes in :B
Whats tailgate assist? These tailgates are lite as a feather...
Edit: Just looked em up. I can see the assist being usefull for lowering the gate to keep it from slamming down, but really not needed for closing as gate is so lite.
Wondering if that assist is adjustable? It may not let the gate open on its own if it too strong. Mite have to help it down.

ib516 -- Congrats on the new Ram!
Speaking of tailgates on these newer Ram's -- rain water likes to collect on top of the tailgate trim. Normally it would run off, but with a tonneau cover (at least with mine), it just sort of hangs out there...waiting for an unsuspecting fellow to lower the tailgate... I took 2 unexpected baths before I learned... :o
Thanks for the tip! :) - IllinoisCheesehExplorerib516 -- Congrats on the new Ram!
