Whats tailgate assist? These tailgates are lite as a feather...

Edit: Just looked em up. I can see the assist being usefull for lowering the gate to keep it from slamming down, but really not needed for closing as gate is so lite.

Wondering if that assist is adjustable? It may not let the gate open on its own if it too strong. Mite have to help it down.

As I understand it, the RAM's tailgate's are not assisted or damped like the Ford and GM are. Am I wrong on that?
