We currently have a Genie HDDVR in the S&B and an HD receiver in the MH. We're leaving for 6 months and my better half would like to record some shows.Our dish is a Slimline with an SL3PIG-Z LNb (one horn, 4 outputs). One output to the front TV and one output to the rear TV.The S&B has a device that is plugged into the coax network (I'm told this is a SWM?) and plugged into the wall outlet for power. I can't get the Genie to work in the MH. With the SWM plugged in or not. What setup should I be using for the connection? If I need the SWM box, how should it be connected?BTW - directv systems are down for support.

I don't think The antenna you have in the MH is SWM, and the Genie requires a SWM. In addition to the SWM power inserter, you'll need a switch like this one to adapt your antenna to the SWM receiver. The switch also requires a different power inserter than the one from your S&B. There's a lot of info on wiring up a SWM8 switch here. al

Thanks Al,The dish I am using is mounted on a tripod. The dish on the roof of the MH is a KVH in motion for Dish Network. I'll check the links you provided and see what happens. It could be that my wife does not get to record again this year.

you want to record at home, or on the road ?you should be able to record at home, and play the DVR recordings in the campereven IF you can't connect the Genie to the dishi don't have any satellite equipment, so maybe my memory of previous postings is a little fuzzy

You said your dish was on a tripod.... bring it along with the DVR in your home with you on the road.... its easy to set up with a sat finding app on your phone. It takes me about 10 min to set it up....you can not get all the home DVR features with the travel DVR's. The satellite company's set it up that way a few years ago on purpose.... they did this because people were getting a bunch of DVR's on their home accounts and giving them to family that did not live at same address,,, so now all DVR's feed other boxes that way only one per account....

The SWM8 kit requires a different power inserter than the one you have at home but a new LNB would allow you to move the Genie and the PI as needed.

Thanks CA, I don't know what we'll end up with but it will have to wait until next year. We leave next Tuesday for MI, the northeast and upper MN. After that who knows, but we will be back in AZ by October

Consider equipment changes like all SWM.

Or leave the Genie at home and use a receiver like the HR24 2 channel DVR with your current dish in the MH. You will also need a multiswitch - 4 cables in and 2 out to the HR24. You should be able to do a receiver upgrade while on the road. The HR24 can also use SWM so you could use it at home or when/if you have SWM for the rig.

Many options but the HR24 solves the summer recording one.

Our current LNB has 4 ports out. I cable directly from the LNB to each TV plus one short cable for antenna alignment. We're not using any of the cables from the KVH. The KVH is obsolete and the cabling is a mess. The easy solution was to cable directly with no splitters. This allows us to watch two different shows at the same time on the two TVs.

It appears that the SWM LNB requires a splitter or a SWM8 switch and a PI. If we go that route, it will wait until we gat back to AZ in October.

You cannot have any standard TV splitters on the coax and it sounds like that is your setup.

We move our HR44 receiver between home and RV so all recorded shows go with us. You might consider S&B upgrade to SWM dish and do the same. The advantage is 5 channel recording so never any channel conflicts and lots of options when parked in the trees. With a one night stop you might want to just watch recorded shows or OTA rather than setup the dish.

Thanks for all the responses. We've used this HD setup since 2009. We're usually out for 6 months so DW wants to record certain shows that play while we are traveling.

Getting the traveler would be nice but we spend too much time under the canopy so a portable such as we have now is the only solution that works for us. Plus, I like the idea of spending a few dollars for a solution vs a whole bunch of dollars.

My wife tells me I'm cheap, but I consider myself frugal.:B

I will look for a SWM LNB as that appears to be the best solution.

Let's see.....buy a $30 SWM LNB to make the existing system work or buy a Trav'ler for $1800 to do the same thing. Wait, I pretty sure this is a trick question......Let me think about it.

Stop at a Camping world and have a Winegard SWM Trav'ler installed on the roof.
Then for overnight stops, just push a button to get HD. Next morning, push a button to store it.
No dragging a SWM dish out of storage to put up and take down. Even if you have the spare storage space to put it.

Another solution is to buy a SWM dish. In the $200 range for tripod, dish, etc.
