Watch Directv on multiple TVs.......

$6 extra a month! Been with them since they bought out Primestar. NEVER had that charge. Called and asked WTF. Said its always been on there just worded different. I called BS because my bill is $6 more than last month. On hold an ungodly amount of time and got no satisfaction. Took 15 minutes just for him to look up last months bill! Since I got Genie a year ago my bill has jumped $20 a month when they said it would only be $3 for adding whole home DVR. Oh, and lost TV for about 20 minutes because of a rain storm yesterday AGAIN. NEVER had that with HD TV until the fantastic Genie. Wife was really getting pissy AGAIN. Yes the service man said its happening to him also. About to jump ship on this the last straw. Is this all because of the AT&T thing?

  • I think it's sh1tty business practice, but it's the norm in the industry now, comcast does the same with cable TV since they went all digital, gone are the days of plugging in a "cable ready" TV and getting reception, now you need to pay $5/month per TV to rent a box.

Dish waived their receiver fees when I had their "America's everything plan", but that's been a number of years ago now, I guess they figured I was paying for their most expensive plan, they could "lose a few bucks", lol
  • Same thing here. 1 receiver is free, all other receivers are $6/month. That's 1 Genie free plus $6/month for each additional receiver or client. Been that way "forever". Sounds like you have just been lucky.
As to losing the signal, it's not the Genie, it's the HD (by the way, that also added $10/month to your bill). The HD signal on KA band is much more susceptible to rain fade than the SD channels on the KU band. When you lose the HD in the rain, change over to the same channel in SD and it will likely be just fine.
So the Genie add-on fees are $10/month for the HD service, $6 for each additional device, $3/month for the Whole Home service and $10/month for the DVR service (I think it's $10). So, even if you already had HD service you would be looking at $19/month more if you added the DVR + Whole Home + another receiver.
  • We have always paid $6 after the first receiver. DVR is upto $15 per account: same for one or four. HD is $10 per account I think. Unless it's gone up. I don't pay the bills.

I agree Directv is getting pricey. I'll probably drop it after this contract ends.
  • To my knowledge they always have charge per receiver .. Always have. You must have been missed ;-) If you happen to own the equipt its a access charge and if not its a lease charge same fee ! I agree it's a pain but what can you do ? Dish has the same thing. Most cable companies now require their special receiver for ea tv the normal the cable ready tv won't recieve their signal. Hang it up and throw up the antenna for OTA .. That's it :-(
