Wilson DT4G, anyone have one?

Just curious if anyone has this amplifier, I'm thinking of the home/office version to use at home and when we are parked at a campground with hookups?

We don't usually get WiFi access so a 4g repeater/amplifier is a good solution for us.

Thanks

Mounting the outside antenna to the bat wing might be OK. But be aware that the DT4G does list a 20' antenna separation. Directional antennas and small desktop antennas might be OK when closer together.

I have a 6" directional indoor panel. I experimented at installation and it did not work at less than 15' from the outside non directional antenna.

Where mine is on the bat wing....it is at the front part of the 5ver....
indoor antenna is at the back of the 5ver. Works excellent. Got it about 24 feet away.
  • In our camper we use a SOHO amplifier with a trucker antenna mounted on top of the batwing along with a directional desktop indoor antenna. It works okay, sometimes we'll need to turn the gain down just a bit if we do get any oscillation.

Check the signal strength your phone is getting now before buying...

Wilson tech support informed me their systems need at least a -105 dB existing signal in order for it to help improve the signal. Note that a -101 dB is considered a stronger signal than -112 dB which for me often results in dropped calls and unfortunately the Wilson system can't help improve it.

I suspect this unit is not designed for mobile use. Mine will overload when to close to a cell tower and requires a manual reset so it may quit while driving. If it overloads when parked then it's not needed anyway. It's connected to the inverter output and I installed a switch to turn it on/off.

We won't be using it while traveling only when parked at the campsite.

As far as the antenna being directional I plan on mounting it on my batwing arm so it can be rotated from within the camper, many npeople have done this with good results.

Same here....mounted to the front tv antenna mount....raise it up and rotate to where the signal is. When moving....just lower it down.
  • I have the mobile version of this. It greatly improved the signal but my phone had to be within a foot of the inside antenna. I wonder what the range is of the dt4g inside antenna? I would like to swap systems so I don't have to put the phone in a cradle all the time. The amp is mounted about 3 feet from the antenna (trucker antenna) and I had no issues at all from it shutting itself down.

  • I have their 3G version with no plans to upgrade as I don't really need the additional speed.

    Two considerations:
    1. If you get the directional antenna then you'll need a way to point it, which is why I have a non directional antenna.
    2. Be aware of the 20' distance requirement between the antennas, which is why my outside antenna is mounted at the rear of the MH.
