Windows 10 problems

Just tried typing ebay mc400 into the address bar in the Edge browser and it came up with the results from a google search.

Still a problem. I added Google to the list of search engines then told edge to use it as my default search. I closed and re-opened Edge.

Then in the address / search bar I typed ebay mc400

Edge took that to be a URL and said sorry, can't find that page.

Maybe I can't enter a search in the address bar like on other browsers???

You can change the search engine in Edge but it's not obvious how to do it. You have to have the page for the search engine you want to add open in a tab of the browser, then it will show up in the Settings as a selection for the Search engine. For instance, go to www.google.com in a tab of the Edge browser, then open Settings and go to Advanced Settings. Within there is an option "Search in the address bar with Bing" click on the Change button and, provided you have google.com displayed in a browser tab, you will now be able to select google as the search engine and make it the default

FWIW. I stopped using Edge pretty quickly because I was unable to change the search engine. Cortana didn't work in Canada at the time (no French). Now I don't use it because to use Cortana, I have to be logged into my MS account and I won't do that all the time - too easy to track.

Not to be picky but hopefully to help out, Edge is not a search engine.

Edge, Internet Explorer, Chrome and Firefox (and the list goes on) are Internet Browsers and are independent from search engines such as Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc., etc.

Each browser usually defaults to the search engine from the company that provides the browser, but all browsers can be set (in their settings) to use whatever search engine the user desires.

Browsers interpret the HTML that defines the content of a webpage and present it in graphic format on a PC's display. Search engines are apps that take a user's search arguments and use them to find websites that contain information related to the user's search request. Two completely different and independent functions.

Modern browsers such as Chrome (and more recently other browsers) integrate the search engine interface into the browser (rather then a search engine website such as google.com) and allow either a URL for a website or a search argument to be entered in the browser's address box and the browser determines whether it is a website address or a search argument. If it is a search argument the browser hands over the search argument to the search engine which sends the result of its web search back to the browser in the form of an HTML defined web page with a list of the search results.

Probably way more than you wanted to know but it might help when communicating with support sites.

One finger scroll is when you go to the right side of your mouse pad and scroll up or down. Windows 10 default is 2 finger scroll but in reverse to what I was used to with my old laptop. Some browsers offer the old way still. I mostly use Firefox Though for one job Edge works best and another needs Chrome and so on.

After 3 hrs on the phone with the HP techs I got all my questions answered. I learned right clicking on E Edge(what is installed on windows 10) won't work to search the internet. Downloading explorer made it work. Chrome should would that way also. I also learned how to make RV.net a tile and how to move tiles. The one finger scroll took the longest to fix. I would only work with 2 fingers. The tech took may tries to fix this, after trying the stuff on control panel like I did, he updated, software the pad drivers, none of which work finally changed something in the internal systems and it now works.

It depends on whether you are a "do all things via Microsoft" or not person.

If you are a Google search fan, you need to change your default search to Google rather then the default Microsoft Bing.

If you are OK living in the Microsoft world, then the answer is yes it is the new way.

I prefer the Google world as I can use the same apps on all my devices. I hide Cortana in Windows 10. I prefer the Google world that does and has done what Cortana offers now.
