wow. Just set up an outlook account. What a clean and easy email account. It's like a regular personal account. What a difference from all the struggling to use/load the yahoo site just to get to your email.

Another vote for a Google voice number- I can also make phone calls from my iPad or iPod, and they're free.

Not disgruntled. I'm just real glad that for 8 years and counting my personal email is spam free. So many of my friends have to spend 20 minutes deleting all the garbage off their email before they can even find the ones that are real.

THAT is why I use yahoo for all my internet interaction.

When I bought my Iphone I asked if they sell the phone number? Of course they said no.

I didn't even make it out the door of the ATT office and to my car before I got 6 texts from ADVERTISERS. I am not 16 years old, don't need to mindlessly text. I CALL my friends so I did not choose the package which included unlimited text. SO, I 'pay' for all texts.

Disgruntled no, just want a phone and email that has ONLY my stuff on it NOT unsolicited junk. Yes that I find inconvenient. And it all stems from loss of privacy. We as people should have put a stop to it but we were outnumbered by the trillions of the new computer kids that don't have a clue and clicked away without reading the privacy act first. Albeit I think most of them are so uneducated they would not have understood it anyway! :(

Not paranoid like your friend, but my Iphone is also in a drawer and I dug out my emergency back up burner phone from the RV and using it. I couldn't stop them from tying all my Iphone email info to damnn facebook.

Setting up Filtering and/or rules will eliminate this. In outlook, a simple right click on the email while in your inbox and go down to junk mail, click and tell it to move all email from this sender to the junk mail folder prevents you from ever seeing them again.

I looked at signing up with the outlook email and it is microsoft. I have firefox for my browser will it work with that?

You can even respond or send email using the alias email address protecting your primary account. When or if you end up getting too much spam, than just delete the alias email, and create another. I have about 3 alias email address forwarding to my primary account which I use for Craigslist. I'm accessing those emails through Thunderbird.

As others have said ... get a gmail.com and/or an outlook.com email account. Not only do I have my "private email account" but I have gmail, outlook, and a gmx.com email account. All are free and are not intrusive. These email accounts are used for forums, registrations, etc and if I get spam it's no big deal cause it doesn't affect my private email. Besides, the accounts listed above have mechanism for filtering spam, etc. I do have a yahoo.com email which I got many years ag0 (before they asked for phone #s).

The other good thing about all those email accounts but NOT yahoo is that I can use an email client like Thunderbird using POP3 protocol to download my emails to my PC. With Yahoo you have to pay for that capability.

Wow, I hate to be the one to break it to him, but having a flip-phone instead of a smart phone makes no difference to the "listeners".

Yup they can listen all they want if it is even possible, but with a burner phone they won't find you!!

Probably a NAS request. Makes their job easier. And this post is only semi in jest.

Well.....you now have to enter your phone number to get an account.
And it has to be a valid phone number. Obviously they are running the number thru a system of sorts to verify it.

ALSO - the dinosaurs that still utilize (or even have in their home) land lines are dying off. Much like those who still use "checks" at the grocery store or Piggly Wiggly.
