- RV-1_2n-FUNExplorerOur Bounder bath and a half has a macerator setup for the rear/main toilet. Half dumps direct.
- mowermechExplorerOver the years, I have owned almost every type of RV. NONE have had a macerator toilet, nor have I ever found it needful to purchase a macerator pump.
As has been mentioned, "Gravity works!" - bukhrnExplorer IIIA real simple answer, NO
- thestoloffsExplorerMost of our experience has been seeing macerator toilets on ocean-going boats, since they would have a far longer time between on-land black tank dumps.

We can camp as long as we want without dumping. My FloJet Waste Macerator Pump is stored in it's own bag in the front storage compartment - anytime I have the need to off load grey or even macerated black water while camping I can do so by using my FloJet to pump it into a set of grey/black water containers already sitting in the back of my truck. For even greater convenience I power the FloJet from a 7-pin Bargman connector mounted next to the waste gates ...
... and wired it through a toggle switch mounted on the battery box at the front of the trailer where I can monitor the tanks as they fill and control the pump accordingly.
With a waste macerator it's all too easy. :B - Sprink-FitterExplorer

Are you talking about a macerator toilet or a stand alone portable macerator? I have the latter, a FloJet Waste Macerator Pump, always service my tanks here at the house, and never have to waste my time lining up at a campground dump station. :B
Apparently waste macerator toilets exist but in all the years we've been RVing I've never seen one in any garden variety TT, 5th, etc - they've all had a conventional Dometic or Thetford RV toilet that simply wastes into the holding tank below. - wa8yxmExplorer IIISome are macerator, Some are "Gravity" (Dump in the black tank) IF you have a macerator then what activates it is a button on the wall.. Push to "Flush".
Using a Macerator is a lot like a residential.. It fills with water, has a "Trap" and when you push the button normally it adds more water, then pumps it out the either adds or pump;s again (After a pause) I forget if it adds between pumps, then it re-fills to await the next customer. - TexasShadowExplorer IIyou can buy and use a portable macerator if you need or want to dump your black tank stuff into a city sewer or a septic tank of someone you know.
we don't use ours very often, but it is handy when we're staying awhile in a relative's back yard. :) - joanne0012ExplorerNon-macerator setups are more common. As one company rep stated firmly but cheerfully in a video I watched recently: "Gravity always works." Features like macerators and electric steps set off my "KISS Principle" alarms.
