Buying advice on a 1998 Isata 310

I have the opportunity to purchase a 1998 Isata Touring Sedan 310 with 100K on the clock for $9995 (NADA Good condition $15150). The dealer says this was a pricing mistake but are willing to honor it and to do a prep package on this unit covering all mechanical systems and appliances because they feel good about the shape this vehicle is in. It does look very clean and well taken care of except for a little cosmetic stuff inside.
This would be my first rv and I would welcome any thoughts/advice regarding this potential purchase especially if anyone has specific experience with this model. I have a refundable deposit on it for the next 10 days so looking to get some good feedback before then.
  • I think Pete's generally has a good reputation. Their parts/store/service department has treated me quite well on a few occasions. I don't personally have experience with their sales department, though...and, as with any vehicle dealer, I'd go in with my eyes open.

Tires do last somewhat better in Vermont than they do in Arizona heat and sun. Depending when the tires were replaced (and I assume on a '98 with 100K miles they have been replaced at least once and most likely twice), they may or may not need replacement.

As with any used RV, check carefully for signs of water damage. It might not hurt to take a quick gander underneath and see if there is substantial rust; operation on salted roads at winter can be destructive. (Minor surface rust is not a concern, but of course substantial structural damage would be very troubling.)
  • I think the mistake was listing it on the website at $9995. I got the impression it should have been listed higher but, they could also be spinning me line of course.
  • Tires, yeah they looked good treadwise, so that's a great question I'll add to my list. Thank you!
  • Pete's RV has one listed for $9995, online. It doesn't appear to be a "mistake" in price.
  • Good thought about the RV Tech and thank you for the other website!
This is the webpage for the vehicle, not much info and no pics yet.

They seem to have a really good reputation and I've been told several times that they don't generally do prep packages on units older than 10 years.

The refundable deposit is good for 10 days at which point they said the price would go up to $15000 plus an extra $1000 for the prep package.
  • No matter what the dealer states. YOU NEED NEW TIRES. The tread is NOT an indication of usefulness. RV tires age out after about 6-7 years. After that yo will start to experience catastrophic failures.
A good way to gauge the veracity of the dealer is to ask about the tires. Ask him how old the tire is. Then get under the unit and check the DOT code. Then ask him if the old tires are okay to use. If he states they are good run away because he is a liar.
remember if the deal is to good to be true in the RV world it is to good to be true.
WHo will check out the RV for you?
Try to find someone knowledgeable to go with you to check the roof and other items of livibility. Then ask the dealer to drop it off at a good mechanic and spend a couple hundred bucks to have the drive train, brakes etc checked.
My guess is that when the final contract is presented to you it will say "As is"
  • Welcome to the forum.
I have no info on the unit you are considering.

Can you give us the name of the dealer? Maybe another member has experience with them.
    Check on Rvservicereviews.com

It seems like the dealer is very eager to sell you the unit, especially with a pricing mistake in the customers favor.

And, maybe I'm just too skeptical.
Consider hiring a RV Tech to do an inspection BEFORE you sign the papers.

So you have a written agreement for the mechanical systems and appliances? And for how long?
    Welcome!:).
