Family Camper - Coachmen Apex RLS

First time poster here. I have a family of 4 (kids 4 & 6), with one on the way and am in the process of buying a 2015 Coachmen Apex 250rls. I am pretty concerned about the sleeping arrangements for the kiddos, but i felt that despite the size, it was basically too good of deal to pass up (15k including weight distribution hitch and other camping accessories). Does anyone have any major thoughts / concerns on this camper model or more specifically its fit for a family of my size? We loved the finishings which was the major selling point.

I am coming from a 2014 coachmen clipper 17bh.
  • If you are comfortable giving up on the bunks, even with another kid beng possible, then go ahead, but consider that as they get a few years older , the bunks may become more valuable.
  • New TT, new numbers to crunch to see if it is safely towable.

I took a look at it and it is indeed a nice TT. 3 youngins and no bunk house. No tub, only a shower. 35 gal gray tank for 5 people, hmmm if buying from a dealer see if they will throw in a portable waste holding tank. IDK but if your good with it, it will be a nice next step in the evolution of your TTers. Since you already have done the camping thing then you and the DW know what to expect in the adventure.

Coming from a 3500 gvw to 7000 gvw is a large jump up in weight.

Is the TV adequate? Enough payload for the tongue weight of 800 to 900 lbs? and passengers ?
  • Two kids sleep in dinette area and biggest kid on couch. Seems doable but as Old pointed out 35 gallon grey tank is an issue.

Doesn't matter how "good a deal" this trailer may have been, the Apex 250RLS is a couple's model, not a family camper. :( IMO, having been there, done that, kids = bunk beds. Ditch this deal and look for a good used triple bunk bed family camper such as the KZ Spree 240BHS.
  • Making up beds every night and stowing them every morning gets old. A bunkhouse with a door lets you utilize the rest of the living area when the kids are sleeping. It gives them somewhere to take a mid-day nap or short break, and somewhere to stow their stuff.

You say you're currently in a small bunkhouse. Have you ever camped without the bunks?
