Furnace kicks on when not on

First off, thank you for all your help so far....I am new to TT's and you guys have made things so much easier......
I have a 1999 Starcraft 17ck hybrid TT and I am in the process of redoing the floor as the previous owner had a leak...As I'm in there this morning, I notice the fan for the furnace kick on and then 15 seconds later the pilot tries to light as I hear a click. The propane is off so it didn't light and about a minute later the fan turned off. My thermostat is all the way to the cold side and there is a swtich on the bottom of it which is off.
This is probably what is draining my battery over time. The breakers only turn off the inverter, so is there a way to ensured the furnace stops coming on? Maybe a faulty thermostat?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.......

This forum is awesome. Less than 4 hours after posting the question, the OP has the problem solved.

I once had a problem solved in 15 minutes here.
  • You guys are awesome.......It clicks on pretty easy, but it took quite a bit to click it off. Now it is off.

    Thnx again
  • Thanks for the replies. Now I get it. Well not the furnce turning on, but Fuses for 12 v and breakers for plugged in. LOL. Makes sense.
There is a switch under the thermostat that says off with an arrow. And it is to the left, but I never do here a click. I'll go force it and see if it turns it off. Kind chinsy and hopefully it doesn't break.
Thanks and I'll keep you posted...

It SOUNDS like you have the temp set to it's lowest but did not turn the SWITCH off that actually disables the furnace. Some models the switch is not easily seen (located under the thermostat) and when you push it find that it requires quite a lot of effort to move the switch. I had an old Terry FAn that was like that so I had to turn it off as DW couldn't make the switch move.

What Skip said. Our switch is hard to push off, you'd think you are going to break something before it snaps over.

The furnace being 12 v will have a fuse, not a breaker.
  • My thermostat has a little rise in the housing where the temperature adjustment switch slides. It's at the far left (coldest setting) and you have to push the switch past that rise to actually turn it off. I had mine coming on when it all the way to the left, but not past the rise. Once I noticed the rise and pushed the switch past that, it didm't come on. Hope I explained this where it's understandable as it is difficult to explain.

  • Thermostat or wiring would be my guess also. See if there is a 12v fuse for the furnace and pull it out.
