I would suggest you look east rather than west. I like my awning lights. Sorry you don't like them, but I don't put them up to annoy you nor to please you. I put them up because I like them and, all in all, they are not anywhere near an annoyance issue. You turn east, you won't even know my lights are there; you turn west, and your "tude" will probably get the best of you. But you can take heart, my awning lights are 120V so I won't be using them in the wilderness; and I won't be using an annoying generator either. I don't go wilderness camping with a generator along, that just doesn't make sense to me.
I have awning lights too. The difference is they aren't an imposition to other campsites as close as a few feet away. Sounds like yours are the same. And I can dim them down if I think it's an issue and I am aware at what hours are logically prudent to keep them lit and at what brightness. I am thinking about the other guy when I turn them on. I am talking about the folks who blantantly don't care. You can't tell me folks can't tell the difference if their lights, radios, TV's etc are infringing on others. These are things you can visually see and hear and make adjustments if anything just be simply courteous. The folks I am talking about do it for shock value and show. They want the attention and as a result it's usually impacts other campers, and they do it on purpose. There is a difference.
I often find it's the same ones drunk and loud at 3am and kids running through other's sites non-stop and they let their dog drop a log on your site too. it's that ilk anyway.
