Opinion - Best Honey Pot

I searched but the last thread I can find was from 2008 and I think portable waste tanks have changed a lot since then. When we first got our TT last year I decided we would always go to places with full hookups but I'm finding some desirable spots just don't have sewer. I've got an 8 night trip planned this year at one spot where I'll have to walk some distance to the dump station so, I'd like to get a good size unit. I've looked at a few models and right now I'm leaning towards the barker 42 tote tank. Any suggestions or opinions?

    Actually, more like 8.3 lbs/gal
  • Waste water is heavy, that is why I have a hitch ball on the toad to pull the tote to the dump, it is slightly off center so that I can watch the tote on the right hand mirror and I drive very slow to the dump.

Also when the handle is placed on the hitch and the tote goes forward when I stop it goes just under the bumper and can not disengage or jump out, I have complete control, seen one come loose and a mad dash to stop it luckily it was a small one and did not rupture.

  • Does the barker 42 tote tank have pneumatic tires? If not, get one that does or upgrade it. Also, you don't manually pull it to the dump station, you put the handle on your hitch ball and tow it.

  • We use to use a small 10 gallon years ago with our Class C. Buying a tank was reasonable and I had a couple. Recently, I saw the prices for these things, you would think it came with someone to do the dumping and hauling. It's just a plastic container with a twist on cap??????

Sorry about the rant....but these have become unbelievably expensive for what they are.

  • Make sure that the unit has the capacity to hold one tank in the trailer, what I am saying is this as an example your biggest tank is a 37 gallon tank capacity and the tote should be minimum 38 gallons or more, that way you are not left with a partially empty black tank and a full tote with a hose also full, I have a gray tank that is 27 gallons and the tote is 32 gallons, the black tank is 24 gallons, so I know that the connecting hose is wet but not full of goodies and I can still rinse the hose a little with some water after disconnecting from the RV and before disconnecting from the tote.

  • Its a matter of personal preference but I use a smaller (15 gallons) waste tank. A 42 gallon tank is gonna be a lot of weight to drag anywhere. I also changed out by wheels to larger metal ones with ball bearings.
