is the pure sine wave inverter a name brand or a type?...where is the best place to buy?.
thank you for the help!!
Pure Sine Wave is a "type", as opposed to the cheaper Modified Sine Wave inverter that may or may not play nice with certain electronics. Samlex, Go Power, Xantrex, and Morningstar are a few well respected brands. They break down into inverters with noisy fans that run all the time (cheapest) to thermo controlled quiet fans (more expensive) to fanless models like Morningstar (the most expensive). - sc300turboExplorerthe coach is a 2010 winne sightseer 35j with the upgraded ford chasis 22.5 wheels....and 175 amp alternator....

old topic.....but I need to learn.....can I run an inverter off the chasis alternator while driving to power the TV/satellite reciever/ and dish....so we can watch tv while driving without the concern of draining the coach batteries?
Yes, you can. The alternator should keep the coach battery charged, assuming a reasonably modern MH. The size of the inverter will depend on the current the TV/Satellite receiver draws. A 300 watt inverter should be plenty for any LED or LCD TV. That can still draw as much as 30 Amps at 12 volts. I would recommend a pure sine wave inverter. - sc300turboExplorerim aware of what your supposed to do...that's not what im asking....im asking how to keep power to the TV/SAT receiver and dish while driving with out the generator running......
seems I need an inverter with enough juice to do this.....anyone with recommendations? - PastorCharlieExplorerIf the TV is forward of the driver's seat it is not suppose to work while the engine is running. It should be factory wired to turn off the TV when the engine is started.
- tenbearExplorerYour TV/sat receiver probably needs 120vac to work. Not sure about the antenna but I think it runs on 12vdc. Did your lights work with the genny off? They are 12vdc.
Most RVs don't come with an inverter. Some high end Class As have an inverter/converter. Unless you have an inverter you won't have any 120vac unless you are plugged in to shore power or on generator power. - sc300turboExplorerI was testing yesterday with the engine running and generator on......I have a Winnebago class a 35ft....as soon as I shut down the generator the tv/sat receiver and antenna all lost power.....with generator on everything worked
tv is over my head not in my sight...lol
I don't believe I have an inverter - tenbearExplorer

300turbo,
I assume you are in a motorhome , the alternator on your engine should keep the chassis battery and the house batteries charged up while driving , so yes you can watch t v and such !
I believe it is against the law to have the TV within sight of the driver. So, the passengers can watch TV but the driver should not. :B - wanderingbobExplorer II300turbo,
