rv campgrounds for 55+

One thing to keep in mind is that in Florida at least, 55+ (often, that might not all be like this) means that one of the primary residents has to be 55+. It doesn't mean that guests have to be 55+ or that short term residents have to be 55+.

We've stayed at a few 55+ parks in Florida and neither myself or my wife or our kids are 55!

We spend more time with them than their parents and usually know more about them than their parents. When I'm off camping on a long weekend, break or summer vacation I don't want to be around them. While we agree with your post I should also like to add that I'm a special education teacher and because of the things I see and hear I need to get away from adolescents and teenagers in order to recharge my internal batteries and get ready for the next opening day of school. The burnout rate for special education teachers is 3-5 years and I start my 20th year on August 19th. It will be my last. I figure 2 twenty year career jobs is enough and I intend to spend the rest of the time fishing and birding.

I really don't care why somebody might want to stay at a 55+ RV Park. I'm just pointing out that if you're a park owner and call it "55+" that would limit your business at least when it isn't snowbird season. If "RV Park Reviews" has a red check mark next to "family friendly" and I had a family, I wouldn't stop in or even call.

How about just answering the OP's question without turning it into a "I don't like 55+ parks".

Do you really need to poop in every thread with an opinion no one really cares about?


OP, the only site we use is rvparkreviews.com and I don't think there is an easy way to filter out 55+ parks.

For us it's not so much the kids as it is the young adults. Not all of them but those that think everybody wants to listen to their music...those that don't have respect for other people's space so they'll trapes right through your RV site without a second thought or consideration for your space...those that keep you up till midnight or later with their loud noise because they're having a good time....etc. etc.

My experience has only been at one 55+ RV Park but let me tell you that it's very nice there, very quiet, very respectful yet friendly people. And yes, some of them have grandkids visiting but they seem to have supervision and so it's not disturbing to others....not even in the middle of the day (for those that may be napping).

Jim, I happen to work in property management and have for many, many years. Let me just suggest to you that if you owned a 55+ community (apartments, RV park, mobile home park, etc.) that depending on location, demographics, etc. you may not be limiting potential customer base but rather enhancing it. People 55+ seek out age restricted projects and so they generally have a higher occupancy than a competitor in their area and management/ownership generally has less turnover (which means less expense).

I don't seek out 55+ campgrounds, but, if there is one in the area, I'll go there first, if they have a space. Like the above it isn't the children; its the childs parents...the 20-40 something year olds. Race day with the television outside loud enough I can hear it 10 sites away. Drunk at sundown. Yelling back and forth. The latest Rap group at decibels that exceed a fire-truck's siren. I won't belabor the point, but, children don't bother me, old folks like me don't bother me, but, something has happened to the generation in between that makes me appreciate the ambiance of a 55+ campground and the ones that I have stayed at (a super fine one in Santa Fe comes to mind and you should have a reservation well in advance) have not been hurting for RVers.

For those that have to ask why a 55+ park let me just say that different people have different resons why they prefer it. And we understand that it may not appeal to everybody and they're entitled to their views and we respect that. No harm in asking the question if it's an honest question. We just ask, wether you understand it or not, please allow us to have our views and respect ours, likewise. It's all about live and let live.

Even a 55+ CG could be swarming with grandkids. Frankly, if I owned an RV park, I sure wouldn't limit my potential customer base to 55+. Maybe look for RV "resorts" that are so expensive that nobody with a family could afford it. I'm a single "well over" 55 camper. Many places will put me in a spot away from the playground/pool area, but I don't ask for it. I suspect that they save those spaces near the playground/pool for families that have kids.
