Texas is 6% or 6.25%, not sure which. Plus yearly registrtation which I have no idea what it would cost for that vehichle. 4 runner, f350, 5er and utility trailer are each around $75 a year.
That's at the State level. Local municipalities can add another 2% so the max tax rate, depending on where you buy, is 8.25%. I'm not sure since it's been a while since I bought a new car or RV but I thought the sales tax on them in Texas was capped at some max amount.
I actually ended up paying the sales tax on a vehicle in Texas twice. Once when I bought it here in Texas and a second time when I moved back to Texas. I'd moved out of State for two years and had registered the vehicle in another State for those two years.
Taxes are like death itself - sooner or later they'll catch up with you. Different States play different games in how they get the money, but in the end when you add them all up what you end up paying is probably not all that much different from one State to the next. Some charge income tax, some property tax, some sales tax, etc. It's kind of funny to read the posts that XXX taxes are cheaper in some State so that's the place to be, but what they may not realize is the YYY taxes or living costs generally consume those savings and some of those taxes may be reoccurring rather than a one-time charge.
