Visiting the Statue Of Liberty

The Statute of Liberty is on Liberty Island in New York Harbor and not accessible by any motor vehicle. You can get to Liberty Island by boat, and a ferry will take you there.

You must have a ticket, secured by reservation, to enter upon the grounds of the island, another ticket for a pedestal tour, and another for a crown tour. You would be very wise to do your research at www.nps.gov/stli before you embark on your trip.

Your best bet is to park your motorhome at a RV park and take public transportation into the city.

If you leave from Liberty State Park in New Jersey I would think you wouldn't have any issues. I've been to the statue three times and always went there. Very easy to get to. Would recommend you get there as early as you can. As you take the ferry, it usually stops by Ellis Island then at the Statue. I stay on the ferry and get off at the Statue first so I have a chance to actually get to the top without having to wait 3-4 hours, then go to Ellis Island on the way back.

Any online mapping should be able to give you directions from wherever you might be staying. There are a few state parks just north of the city that you could camp at.

I wouldn't drive a car in NYC let alone a class A motor home. Find the nearest commuter train station to where you are staying (or drive to one that's closer to the city, the parking at these stations is pretty good), take the train to Grand Central, then take the subway. There is a subway stop about 2 blocks from Battery Park, which in itself is a cool place to visit. The ticket/check-in station and ferry dock for the islands is in Battery Park. I know of no place in the area that could accommodate a class A.

That said, be prepared for two security checks. One on on the mainland, and one before you enter the statue. Lines can be slow, especially weekends. Much worse than most airports.

Make sure you include a stop at Ellis Island, if it's not included with your tour. We thought Ellis Island was going to be boring, but it was very cool to see.

Not endless you have RV that also floats! Ditto on the Liberty State Park, in NJ. But it not much of a state park

I've seen many postings of staying at Liberty Harbor RV in New Jersey for easy access to New York City. If it's a RV park there surely can't be any issues with getting there. It sounds like the perfect place to visit the city although it doesn't look like the ultimate camping experience!

We've been there a couple times......... stayed in Newark and took the train over to Manhatten. We walked most every place and took a cab one time. I would certainly not recommend driving a Class A around that city.

We stayed at Liberty RV Park in Newark New Jersy years ago and took the ferry to the Statue which we walked to. The RV Parkwas not much but you coulssd see the Statue of Liberty from there and easy access to the ferry and getting to NY.

I have been there. In my opionion it is much better viewed from a distance than actually going up inside of it. Ellis Inland was very enjoyable and time there was very interesting. There is so much to do in NYC but it is not the ideal RV destination.

If you don't have a towed, Liberty Harbor RV might be the answer. It is a parking lot with electric hookups and is not cheap. It will be a mile plus walk to the boat, but you can't get any closer. Things have changed and what I knew doesn't matter any more. LH is also at near the water taxi to Manhattan. It won't be cheap, but it will be memories.

We stayed at Liberty Harbour last September we have a 36ft fiver and friends have a 35' class A. No problem getting there at all.
Short walk to train that goes to WTC subway.
You can also walk directly to the ferry from Jersey to Ellis Island and the Statue.
Not exactly glamping but awesome access to everything NYC.
