Went on our first adventure!!

We had a nice weekend at Laurel Lake KOA. Nice little campground! Wooded, and within walking distance to the lake.

Aside from the water issue when first connecting, and not being able to get the fireplace or the DVD player to work, everything else was great!

First thing I realized is I need to rethink my organizing inside. The big cabinet over the bed was completely empty, so I'll be moving all backup stuff like TP, paper towels, etc. back there. I also need to get some extra hangers in the closets!

Biggest realization was that taking the cat was a bad idea! Freaking litter was everywhere! Ugh! More importantly is that it wasn't fair to him. He really had no room to roam, as its just too small of a space. And, as soon as he would try and go anywhere, the dogs went bananas wanting to get him! So, I just ordered a timed cat feeder that feeds for up to 90 hours. I think everybody will be happier with him at home!

Biggest thing was how relaxing it was! I have a disease where I need to avoid stress at all times! After getting home and cleaning everything up last night, the dogs and I all slept for nine hours! I haven't slept like that in months!! That alone made buying the RV a lifesaver for me and my family!!

We have a lot to learn, but this is just the start of many wonderful adventures!!

  • Sounds like a great trip and I'm jealous your able to camp this late in the season!
  • One of my favorite memories of childhood camping trips was the time the cat spooked up a tree. My dad spent several hours trying to get him down. We never purposely took a cat camping again... (we did have a cat hitch a ride on the top of the truck camper - thank goodness we stopped for gas on the way out of town).

    Ah, yes, the cat question.:B

DW won't leave home without the two she has. So, she never goes with me.
When I agreed to taking them, I reminded her of the obvious. If either one of them escape the TT & get spooked, up a tree they will go. I don't think the fire department is going to show up when you're a 100 miles from nowhere in the middle of the forest.:S

    She stays home. Always.;)

No choice for hubby ... It's me! The cat is staying home! :)

And we used to keep the water dripping out of the sink faucet for the vat to get fresh water. The feeder was a hopper type with a tray at the bottom. They just ate when they were hungry.

We felt guilty the first time we left the cats at home for a few days, but when we got home they were like "Oh, you came back? Great. Clean up those hairballs will ya?"

    Congrats!

You'll be re-organizing for a while still. Every time you go out, you'll find something else that just doesn't quite work where it's at. :) When you finally have it all figured out, you'll sit at the dinette table, looking around and thinking "I don't know what to do with myself - everything fits perfect."

For the cat, you might not need the timed dispenser. MOST cats won't overfeed themselves like dogs will - especially on dry food. They'll eat when they're hungry and sleep the rest of the time.

I have gone camping and done nothing but read the entire weekend. There is a wonderful sense of relaxation for me. At home, even if I decide to do nothing, every time I look up or walk into another room, I see things that need doing. With the RV, it's just "aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh".

I took lots to read! But, since this was our first trip, I spent most of the time doing stuff, and nothing. LOL

Sadly, the cat has to eat a wet prescription food. This timed feeder had compartments below to put little ice packs, so the food won't go bad. It should be here in a few days, and I'm going to start using it immediately to make sure it works and he uses it.

Good idea.I once bought an on demand release food dispenser for my pair of parakeets. The seeds were so small they got stuck in the tube and a smaller amount came out than needed. The less dominant of the parakeets didn't survive the ordeal:(.
