2013 Ford Edge

We did all the manual said to do to tow 4 down. We also had the rear lights on the car hocked to RV and was using brake buddy. Battery died all the time So we drove with no lights and no brakes and could get between 2 to 4 hours before battery died
Any suggestion on a fix. Can we charge car battery from RV battery whir towing
  • On our 2011 Edge we had a dead battery after about 4 or 5 hours towing. (It was ok after 2 or 3 hours towing). Even with the key all the way back, and following the manual instructions, there is some kind of parasitic load draining the battery.

I installed a Toad Charge and that fixed the problem completely.
  • We towed our 2013 for the first time two weeks ago. We have a charge wire from the coach. It powers tail lights and brake lights and turn signals.
Followed the manual. Put the air conditioner in recirculate, not that is germane. Turned off radio and headlights. Put the trans in neutral and without hitting the brake hit the start button and hit it again until it said accessory mode. Got out and locked the doors
I don't think the manual mentions turning off the headlights but we did anyway.
We use an air brake by Roadmaster.
    Everything worked just fine.
In our 10 Edge "we" sometimes forgot to turn the key all the way back and it drained the battery.
  • Yes you can add a charge line. I did just that on our 2012 Edge Limited. Very battery hungry machine.
  • Our dingy, as well as our every day driving vehicle, is a 2013 Ford Edge Limited which we have towed on a few 600 mile trips without a problem. Before that we towed a 2009 Ford Edge without battery issues until the battery got older. Then it would sometimes be dead after a long trip. The owner's manual had not mentioned anything about starting the car periodically during a trip. The MotorHome Dingy Towing Guide said the car should be run at every fuel stop or about every 250 miles or words to that effect. Following those directions and a new battery solved the problem.
  • We also have a 2013 Edge and we use the iRV2 brake. We had a charge line installed to prevent this from happening because it happened on previous toads.

If you have a 2003 or newer Freightliner, the wire is already in the 7 pin plug. We have an early 2003, so it wasn't, but the later ones were.
