460 ford engine. Not starting

I have a 1998 Winnebago Chiefton with only 37,000 miles. Sat for 3 years but was run every week. Drove it home and ran it once stoped it and will not start without using Either and then runs well but when i stop it it will not start again without Either. I changed the fuel filter already. What needs to be don now...I also put in 9 more Gallons of fuel. What could it be

Thank you

  • Actually, Mitch has a good suggestion. On an EFI system, if you hold the pedal to the floor while cranking, the computer will NOT energize the fuel injectors. That way if it is flooding it will clear out and start. If that doesn't help then it sounds like you are not getting enough fuel pressure in which case it is likely a weak fuel pump. Common problem with the EFI 460 chassis.
BTW - while your coach is a 1998, the Ford chassis would be a 1997. There were no 1998 Ford F53 chassis made.
  • Not getting fuel if it runs on the ether... 1998 should be EFI...

EFI would have an electric fuel pump in the tank.. Lay under the gas tank and have some switch on the ignition and you should hear the pump run for a few seconds.

You might try cranking it with the pedal floored.. Yes, I know you normally don't have to do this with EFI, but it's something to just try??

    Good luck!

    Mitch
  • Accelerator pump,in carb not putting fuel in motor. Is it carbureted or throttle injection or efi.
